Didn't love this one. Maybe should have waited for colder weather.

Cask pour. Completely different experience than drinking from the bottle. Had to initially chew through the frothy head to get to the beer. Excellent beer.

I always try to rate my beer blind. Sometimes I'll re-rate (also blind) to compare. And damn this was tasty both times. The only thing that surprised me was the lack of lacing. At 11.00% this is one of my go-to's for the style now.

Very nice stout. Smooth and silky, not too thick. Look is a dark brown, somewhat amber color with a thin amber head. Smell is of dark fruit, alcohol, chocolate and vanilla. The taste is malty, molasses, cherry, vanilla undertones, bourbon on the forefront, light chocolate aftertaste, with a fair alcohol burn. Despite the mostly unmasked alcohol, this beer is very drinkable, even for someone new to big beers, the feel is just excellent. I really enjoyed this one but I wish I could get it for less than $18 for a 4-pack.

Appearance: very dark brown, almost black; small tan head, quickly dissipates; good lacing; expected for such a big beer

Smell: smells delicious; vanilla, oak dominate; smells bourbon-y, but could be due to the name

Taste: very sweet, malty, chocolate taste on start; good warming alcohol with roasted grains; oak tannins linger in the end; delicious

Mouthfeel: creamy, like silky milk chocolate

Remarks: may be my favorite US beer so far; excellent; I'll have to get this again.

The alcohol taste overwhelms everything. I did not enjoy this at all, but I'm not a bourbon drinker. Maybe someone who enjoys harder liquor would like this.

If you're not already, this beer could make you a stout fan. Just the right amount of bourbon flavor. Not overpowering. The vanilla is nice as well. Great beer, but it is expensive ($5 bottle), if you're going to keep stock. I would say it was worth the price though.

L: Pours bright coffee black under a clingy, frothy tan foam collar. S: Winey malt aromas with traces of chocolate. T: Malty caramel chocolate flavors are enhanced by oaky vanilla and big alcohol flavors. Dark chocolate bitter finish. F: Creamy, chewy, medium carbonation. O: A potent, big alcohol beer loaded with flavor that is a treat to drink.
