Look: Dark brown to black with light beige lacing, minimal head that disappeared quickly

Smell: Alcohol, dark malt, some dark fruits

Taste: Roasted chocolate and coffee malt, alcohol present, oak tannins and a nice sweet aftertaste

Feel: Thick, foamy, creamy

Overall: Pretty good, perhaps a bit overpowering on the alcohol taste but good nonetheless.

Pours black from bomber into pint glass.
Light tan head with tight bubbles.

Smells of light bourbon, toasty, caramel, sweet chocolate, light alcohol.

Tastes of cocoa, roasted malt, marshmallow, light bourbon. Smooth.

I saw 2 bottles at the store and only bought one. I wish i grabbed the other to age.

Good stuff, already feeling the alcohol after a half a glass. Sneeeeaky!

Very dark, almost black nearly opaque, with a modest tan head that fades quickly.

The aroma is dark roasted malt, sweet caramel and bourbon.

The taste is similar with bourbon very pronounced up front followed by sweet malt, burnt toast with some plum notes, dark chocolate and vanilla. The 11% ABV is very noticeable and takes some of the edge off of the sweetness.

Medium bodied and very drinkable.

Overall a tasty ad enjoyable brew, especially for a cold winter night.

2015 version
Pours almost black into a tulip glass. Tan head with good lacing.
Aroma is light. Some roasted malt.
Taste is slight bourbon, with roast malts, vanilla and dark fruit. Very nicely balanced. Not harsh. Alcohol is well hidden. Slightly sweet.
Mouthfeel is good with nice carbonation.
Overall, I really like this one. It has good balance with all the right flavors. This is a good cold weather sipper that is (luckily) available all year.

Pours dark with thick tan head. You can smell the bourbon right away but it is an amazing smell not too strong, you can also smell a hint of chocolate and oak. It has an up front bourbon chocolate syrup taste, also a hint of caramel. Feels very smooth in the mouth bourbon is not overwhelming just right. Overall an amazing beer!!!

2013 edition

A: poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a finger of dense tan head that fades to a small collar around the edge of the glass
S: smells of whiskey barrel, chocolate and roasted malts
T: Taste is vanilla and caramel from the whiskey barrel with a little coffee and chocolate. Faint roasted malt flavor as well. Swallow is roasted malt, chocolate, a little oxidation and some more barrel.
M: Medium in the mouthfeel with soft carbonation and a dry finish
O: Very approachable and smooth. Flavors play well together but the mouthfeel doesn't really do it for me. Definitely one to try but I'm happy I don't have an entire four pack.

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours jet black with a moderate amount of bubbles. About a finger of tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A roasty and rich dark malt forward aroma with a scent of chocolate, bourbon, and oak. Dark roasted barley malt with hints of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, smoke, caramel, and yeast. Good barrel presence with hints of bourbon whiskey, oak, vanilla, and wood. Sweet hints of molasses. Subtle dark fruit hints of fig and prune. A very good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and rich dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, oak, and bourbon. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, smoke, biscuit, caramel, and yeast. Solid barrel taste with notes of bourbon whiskey, vanilla, oak, and wood. Sweet notes of burnt molasses. Light dark fruit undertones of fig, cherry, and prune. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy and fairly slick. Alcohol heat is hidden well.

Overall: A very good take on a Barrel Aged Stout. Nice blend of dark malt and barrel flavors.

2015 vintage poured into a snifter from a 12 oz bottle brought out by AMM.

Color is dark brown with a thin khaki head that dissipates quickly. Smell is toasted grain, oak, vanilla and some light bourbon. Taste is roasted malt with dark fruit and vanilla. Mouthfeel is a little thin, with mild carbonation. Overall, it's a very good stout, but doesn't gain much complexity from the barrel.

Translucent, almost looks like a dunkel or schwarzbier rather than an imperial stout. Light tan head with little retention. Very thin for the style.

Mild bourbon aroma, very sugary sweet with vanilla.

Cola-sweet with heavy alcohol flavour. The bourbon flavour is mild. It reminds me of rye and coke.

This is very different than I expected. It isn't at all stout-like. More like an american ale-doppelbock hybrid. The simple sweetness is only balanced by alcohol, I don't find it at all pleasant.

A: Dark brown to black hues. Minimal dark khaki head and lacing
S: Chocolate, sweet bread, slight vanilla. Subtle bourbon
T: Didn't get too much upfront. Mid-way through get slight chocolate with some sweetness. Backend is relatively smooth. Get a bit of booze/barrel with some slight coffee bitterness
M: thin to medium bodied. More carbonation than I expected
O: Pretty drinkable for a bourbon barrel aged stout. Not too shabby. I personally prefer a more full bodied barrel aged stout

Pours a pitch black with an off white head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing. Smells sweet and robust with a generous helping of oak and bourbon. Taste is sweet roastinesss and the oak bourbon barrel. Very silky and smooth. Wish I could get more of this! Definitely worth a try and highly recommend it.

Dark beer with thin head. Toasty notes on the nose. Good overall flavors with expected malts and lightly hopped. Somewhat thin mouthfeel. This beer does everything right but not exceptional.

Pours very dark brown. Smells sweet and a little bourbon. Taste is about the same. Sweet maltiness followed by some bourbon. Not too complicated, but great price. Mouthfeel was a bit thin for a BA stout. Overall: I would just buy this to be able to drink cheap BA stout

Do you like stout with your bourbon? I get why bourbon junkies would love this it's a smooth shot of bourbon, the stout is so well hidden I can't even find it! It's an unbalanced one trick pony. Kinda expensive to. I'm sure there's a guy reading this calling me a douche but hey bourbon on my friend.

Smells like figs and cocoa.

Flavor-wise, it's sort of thin and one dimensional up front, but then some licorice and subtle roasty notes kick in to make things interesting. Also some cocoa and dark fruit mid palate, which evolves into a really zesty, lively finish (think raspberry and plum). Definitely above average carbonation for the style.

This hits on a lot of the same notes as BCBS, but in a thinner, more subdued fashion. Quite tasty. Worth $17/sixer? Ehh maybe?

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle, 11% abv. This bourbon barrel stout is delicious, but is slightly lighter in all areas when compared to Bourbon County Brand Stout. Since I can't find Bourbon County anywhere anymore, this will do just fine.

Using the Begnel formula, the Alcohol Score is 12 oz. x 11% = 132, or 2.6 Bud Lights. For the 22 oz. bomber, the Alcohol Score is 242, or 4.8 Bud Lights!

Clear, dark brown beer with a one finger high, beige head. A lot of lacing on the glass.

Nose: Bourbon, milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, fudge, brown sugar, coffee and oak. A lot of sweetness here!
Taste: Milk chocolate, sweet caramel malt, dark syrup, brown sugar, a lot of vanilla, bourbon, oak and black licorice.
Body: Medium body. Light carbonated. Smooth, sweet mouthfeel. Dry and a little bitter ending.

If you are in to sweet things you got to love this! I know I do :)

The only other Imperial Stout that is better than this gem is Prarie Artisan Ales Bomb. I was very delighted to find this yummy brew at my local liquor store. This is simply a very drinkable Imperial Stout!

This is a solid year round imperial stout. I often use it to mix with too sweet beers like Creme Brulee. It isn't bad by any stretch. It is just a little too thin in the mouth for an imperial stout and just a little too weak on chocolate, toffee and caramel for my liking. Otherwise it is a very solid effort. For the same cost you can get Stone Russian Imperial Stout which is top notch. Still if you offer it to me, I wouldn't turn it down. I usually have at least 1 bottle in the fridge. Nice big ABV but not overly hot. Quite roasty and not sweet.

Look: Deep black with just a hint of ruby red. Good head, and swirling in the glass could re-create the head after it fell a bit. Not much lacing though.

Smell: Definitely vanilla. Chocolate even, and the bourbon is certainly there.

Taste: I was very impressed with the taste. Full of bourbon and complexity, not too dissimilar to a much pricier Eclipse. Delicious.

Feel: Smooth and bourbon. Rolls over the tongue.

A fantastic stout for the price.

a - dark black brown beer, nice smooth tan head that leaves a nice lacing.
s - oak, vanilla, dark chocolatey malts, coffee, bourbon, really well blended
t - vanilla, creamy, bourbon, chocolate, umami/wholesomeness, oak barrel
m - medium-heavy, a little thin for an 11% BA stout, alc is mostly covered/some bourbon flavor gives you the impression of alcohol but it doesn't have a burn to it at all, aftertaste is bourbon/oak/dark malts
overall - two points to make here from previous reviews I've read:
#1. this is an incredibly well balanced bourbon barrel aged stout that's available year round, in most places. Anyone who gets "too much bourbon" off this beer just doesn't drink BBA stouts, period. For the availability and the length of time this is aged, this is as good as it can possibly get. And I did not age this bottle, this was the 2015 batch bought from the store yesterday, so I'm not biased by drinking an older bottle either.
#2. Any report of dark fruits in this beer is highly likely imagined. This beer has a dry character characteristic of an American ale yeast. I'm not getting figs, plums, cherries, etc, and I shouldn't be. It's not a Belgian stout.
Great beer. Have bought many times and will buy it again many more. I'd recommend it to anyone.

2015 Vintage. Pour a deep dark brown with fair amount of tan head and mild effervescence. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruit, cocoa, wood and perhaps some bourbon like notes. Tastes roasted malts forward, notes of cocoa, bourbon (mild and sweet), a mid-note twang of oak/vanilla and a very pleasant, mildly sweet finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a surprising amount of carbonation that adds to the twang and keeps things from becoming syrupy – a little thinner than others of this style.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this beer – the availability, price point is good, and I will stock up on this next time I see it – very good.
I’m not a bourbon drinker – but after this – I’ll have to do some research into bourbon and do a little sampling.

update - one of those beers that the more you drink - the more nuance and character. Lovely acidic quality - palate cleansing - solid bourbon notes and vanilla - yum - easily one of my favorites (and at a far more reasonable price point than goose island bourbon barrel stout)

Look - Black as night. opaque, no head
Smell - bourbon, chocolate, oaky, sweetness. Smells delicious
Taste - bourbon, coffee, tons of roasted malts, chocolate, sweetness
Feel - coats the mouth, warming, was hoping for a thicker body though

Overall - My first BA stout....whoa!! A monster of a beer. Definitely a sipper. Enjoyed.

I normally love coffee stouts. This one tastes like bourbon was added straight to it rather than aged in the barrel. Way to strong of a bourbon taste. Sorry, this one fails.
