Look: Pale gold. Not much head, but that's probably due to a lazy pour on my part.

Smell: Apple cider vinegar, without much of anything else sticking out. Perhaps there's a slight crackery malt hiding in the background, but it's very subdued.

Taste: Vinegary tang overlaying a flavor that falls between champagne and a dry cider. I wasn't a fan at first, but this is my first sour, and as I sip it gets more and more enjoyable. For those of you who've never had a sour before, I will warn that this doesn't evoke any of the "typical" flavors of beer one might expect. No malt, no hops, but that's not a bad thing. The label doesn't indicate the presence of any fruit, but there's a green apple element going on here.

Feel: Strong, tingly carbonation which complements the tangy flavor quite well. A medium-light body and zero alcohol warming makes this quite drinkable.

Overall: I was sure I hated this upon taking my first sip, but by the end of the bottle I was sad it was gone. Other reviews here seem to suggest that this is a pretty mediocre sour compared to others, but for a first-timer with no frame of reference it makes for quite a satisfying, unique experience. It's not something I'd buy regularly, but it would make a nice alternative to champagne for a special occasion. Recommended? Absolutely.

no date on the bottle, but i've been holding it since 2014. chardonnay look in the glass with a little white fuzz (fizz) around the edges. earthy and tart on the nose and the tongue. definitely sour! didnt lose anything in the two years it sat in my cellar but then i dont have a fresh one to compare it to....

Bottle poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden yellow with a kinda fizzy white head that dissipates pretty quickly.

S: Sweet fruity notes, green grapes, lactic tartness, a little yeasty funk, and a touch of wheat.

T: Plenty of lemony lactic tartness, fruity white wine, white grapes, stone fruit, maybe a hint of berry, a touch of wheat, and faint oak on the back end.

M: Medium body, lively carbonation.

O: A little fruity for my taste in Berliners, but not bad.

With bare head, almost clear appearance, and light red color it looks like a sparkling rose' wine. Even taking fruit addition into kind consideration, and the pretty color it shows, it does not have a great look for a Berliner.

Nose is sharp lacto notes, also softer tart notes, light and sweet berry, floral in background, with some tannic and earthy hints to balance.

Berry flavor is prominent in the taste, with the sharper lacto notes winning the day from the more rounded yeasty flavors. Much less earthy funk than in the aroma, but more tannic notes to end the sip.

Medijum bodied, very low carb., not as clean a finish as would be optimal, with some clingy berry resin that doesn't work well.

Adding fruit to a Berliner often doesn't work because it ends up too sweetart tasting. Such is the case here, this just isn't a very good Berliner Worth a shot if you are a fruited sour freak, but if you are looking for traditional Berliner Weissebier look elsewhere.

Pours a clear fizzy ruby color. Aromas of sour lacto and faint berry, oak and traces of vanilla. Taste follows nose, lacto sour is upfront and Is mild. Faint dark berries, oak and vanilla tannins follow. No characteristic sticks out and it is nicely balanced. Not only a good sour but a steal at this price. Extra points for not violating my wallet.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a deep ruby amber with a moderate amount of bubbles. Slight finger of off white head that settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A sour, tart, and juicy aroma with a scent of lacto yeast and fruits. Upfront scent of funky Brett and lacto yeast giving some vinegar like and acidic hints. Spice hints of white pepper. Big mix of fruit aromas with hints of sour cherries, white grapes, berries, green apples, pear, lemon, and orange. Also some good hints of oak and wood. Malt hints of grains, straw, and wheat. A really nice aroma.

Taste: Like the smell hints at, a nicely tart, sour, and juicy Wild taste with notes of funky yeast, fruits, and oak. Upfront presence of lacto Brett yeast with funky notes of vinegar along with some white pepper and farmhouse funk. Good notes of oak and wood. Fruit notes of sour cherries, berries, white grape, green apple, lemon, pear, and orange. Backing malt notes of wheat, grains, and straw. A really nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a high level of carbonation. Acidic, juicy, puckering, and fairly drying on the finish.

Overall: A really good take on a Sour. Nice mix of funky yeast, fruit, and spice. Really nicely priced too.

Poured from a 22oz. bottle.

A: Pours a light bronzish gold color with a two-finger white head. Minimal retention and lacing. Lots of bubbly carbonation.

S: Apples, white grapes, citrus, pear, white pepper, subtle notes of oak, diacetyl, malt vinegar, saltine cracker, and some subtle notes of earthy hops and a distinct funkiness.

T: Green apple, orange, pear, hints of oak, cracker, diacetyl, and malt vinegar. Sour and tart with a solid malt yeast driven backbone.

M: Light bodied, champagne like carbonation, nice easy drinking with a tart finish.

O: A solid and enjoyable sour. Nothing spectacular but at its very reasonable price it is worth the buy if your craving a sour at the time.

Golden colored with excellent clarity. No head is present whatsoever. I smell pale wheat with a candy sweet tart tartness. The taste is much better than the appearance and aroma would suggest. There's a sour acidic dark grape and blackberry tartness present. I also get a touch of salt and a prominent pale wheat at the back of the palate. The mouth is smooth,dry and highly carbonated.

Pours a light yellow color with a white fiercely crackly head that dies down to a solid half inch. The aroma is funky, sour and lactic with some aceto going on too. The flavor carries and intense lemon rind sour, small oaky dryness, biscuit, dry saltine cracker, and a kiss of herbal hops show up in the finish. Really near puckering and complex sourness that does not want to let go. Well carbonated, nearly dry, but very drinkable and refreshing. Overall, this is a standout version of the style and quite worth picking up.

The refreshingly tart session beer will tease your palate with a subtle, layered nuance." Brewed in the style of a Berliner Weissbier aged in oak. Available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft. Annual release in the Cellar Series. Vertical notes provided comparing a recently brewed 2015 batch with a bottle from 2014.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a tulip glass. Served above 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp frothy head of a very pale straw white complexion over a pale yellow body with little sporadic and fast-acting carbonation. Retention is above average and lacing is light and spotty. 3.25

(Smell) Considerable funk and some mild sourness in the aroma with other subtleties that set it apart from traditional Berliners. A noticeable aroma of white pepper and barnyard yeast seems to accentuate the otherwise standard level of funk that this beer has. The oak quality is fairly mild, but dries the beer a touch for a more vinous, champagne-like aroma. Fruit qualities of grape are most notable. Potency is medium. 3.75

(Taste) A strikingly tart and boastfully funky sour profile up front, simple but enjoyable, with light champagne accents, modest vinegar character, faint pale and wheat characters and a high cleanliness, finishing on a note of white pepper and cereal with a lingering punch of sour funkiness on the tail end, a level of acidity and sourness that I can admire. 4

(Mouthfeel) The texture is silky, tart and moderately dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a medium crisp finish. Body is medium+ for the style and light/medium overall. Balance is tart and acidic sourness over sweet or bitter. Alcohol presence is low and there are no off characters. 4

(Overall) This ale stands out against other Berliner Weissbier examples for its increasingly high level of acidity and funk over a lightened malt profile, which is equally pale but is nearly overshadowed by the funk and tartness this beer generates. I didn't pick up much on oak in the flavor but was looking forward to see how it impacts this beer. Overall I really enjoyed it and would most likely seek it out next time around. Very tasty stuff. 3.75

Vertical Notes:
2014 (1 Year+ Aged):
This batch of Incorrigible has a bit foamier and more substantial head quality and some soft haziness to the body, setting itself apart from the much clearer fresh vintage. Carbonation is slightly better defined, with subtle and small but consistent carbonation bubbles. This vintage presents a more straight-laced impression of a sour, with a moderate acidity and funk, and a slightly more pronounced sourness, with less barnyard and pepper, and a notably enhanced drying and aromatic oak character emerges through this order. The flavor does generate a considerable amount of untoasted oak flavor over the fresher vintage, stealing some of the attention from the sour qualities. There is a lesser level of acidity and funk versus the fresh batch, as the flavor is not as punctuated on the finish from acidity. The oak aging really stands out vibrantly against the simplicity of the malt profile and does a good job in distinguishing this beer. The texture is slightly smoother, slicker and chewier than the 2015 batch, although the carbonation is softer, generating a moderate frothiness and a softly crisp finish. Alcohol profile is equally low and the balance is slightly funky and tart over sweet, although the gap is much closer. This vintage comes closer to what I believe the brewery intended for this ale, although I found that the sourness doesn't match that of the fresh vintage, the oak creates a whole new angle and adds a lot of enjoyable character to this ale. This was a worthwhile vertical to try, and I recommend giving it a shot if you've got the resources and patience.

This was pretty close to a Goze than a Berliner Weissbier by my taste. Generally, it was way too tart and sour for my liking. But still an interesting beer to try, especially if you like sours.

Short Review. This is a nice Sour Ale, it's pretty standard for the style and I think it had just the right amount of sourness to it without being too acidic. It had a nice citrus flavor with some lemons seeming to stick out the most and the mouthfeel seemed to be the aspect that was truest to style. I enjoyed it and I would drink it again.

A super clear golden yellow beer poured into a tulip glass with a quickly dissipating foam when poured but otherwise non existent head. Smell of oak, sour apple, pear, grape, citrus, earth, and chemical. Taste is of sour apple/fruit, lemon, grape background notes, some woody oak, and tons of funk. It is dry acidic and has a nice crispness to it.

On-tap 4/18/2015 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI served in a snifter glass.

A: The beer is a bright gold color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains wheat, esters, some citrus and light malts.

T: The taste starts out with a big sour bite that dominates followed by some mild citrus flavor. The malt and wheat characters are thin and the hops presence is extremely mild as you would expect in this type of beer. The after-taste is sour.

M: Very crisp and a little smooth, light body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down ok, slightly filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a decent sour beer to drink for a while.

I'm really becoming a fan of the Berliner style. Session strength, great platform for flavors, diggin' the sour... this was an interesting take. Compliments of my buddy Jens4212 and enjoyed while we transferred our own homebrewed sour, this poured a clear orange/amber into the tulip with just a bit of head that quickly dissipated. Cider-like look with a tiny ring of bubbles remaining. Very mild funky aromas, a nice whiff of lactic sourness, and most enjoyably a rich pear/white grape undertone. Up front funkiness from the Brett (a bit of a leathery funk), ample lactic sourness as well. Terrific balance between picking up both sides of the funky character of this brew. Big overripe fruit on the back end (and as Jens identified with laser-like precision, some buttered popcorn)... vast changes with a little bit of time highlighted the complexity of this beer. Delicious. Slightly dry with a really nice lingering aftertaste. Solid brew overall, and I would definitely have it again. Best New Holland I have tried. Brett and Lacto balance in this was a true winner. If I am a bit conservative on the #s, it is only because the sky is the limit with sours for me right now. Cheers.

L: Applejuice, or more accurately apfelwein. Not much head, what is there is white and doesn't last much.
S: Sour and Aceitic, but pleasant. Fruity. Nothing amazing.
T: Pretty simple, with high sourness that overstays. Oak influence is minor.
F: A little thin.
O: Enjoyable but needs more complexity

I saved a bottle of this to pair with my Christmas turkey this year. I am not sure how old it was and it only sat in my basement for a few months, but it seemed pretty much where it should be.

It was a clear yellow with lots of bubbles and did not smell like beer. The sour taste was huge and up front - maybe not like a big Flemish sours, but closer to that than any beer. I think the style listed here is a compromise.

It is easier drinking than truer sours, but it is still huge. The bite keeps on biting. I wish I had more!

A: This poured a clear light gold with quickly dissipating white head.
S: It smelled like sour apples and tart vinegar, with some funky oak and white grapes.
T: It tasted like puckering apple cider vinegar and funky oak, with some sour white grapes and a little mellow wheat. It had a clean and lasting sour aftertaste.
M: It was watery with moderate carbonation. Light body.
D: This was a very sour wheat ale, with bold and complex scent and taste. The body was a little flatter than I would prefer, and the finish was a little harsh, so it needed to be sipped. Age may improve, but this is already a really enjoyable drink fresh.

Bottle (code F054):
Pours crystal clear light golden. Head is bubbly and fleeting. Nose is herbal tinged sour apple, wine grape, and a bit of lemon. I get a hint of oak as the beer warms.

Taste is crisp sour milk and lemon up front. This does mellow to a mostly sour apple flavor by mid-taste. Carbonation is tickling, but almost an afterthought. Body is light, and the sour flavors make the beer, like them or not. I also get a hint of oakon the palate, but it seems like it is only evident because I am searching for it.

The light tingling carbonation with the decent sour bite work well for me. Would enjoy another glass.

A 22oz bomber received for my Birthday in August 2014 from my awesome wife

A - Light yellow with clarity. No lace or head.

A - Funk and tart! Dominates

T - Like the smell, its funky and finishes like a sweet tart. Awesome.

M - Well carbonated.

O - Hard to believe a beer can be this tasty and so low abc? (4.9%). Well done. Grab it if you can find it.

A: (3.5) very clear gold yellow. almost no head, which dissipates immediately regardless. an uninspiring appearance, from which it is almost impossible to tell there's wheat in the grain bill
S: (4.25) true to the words on the bottle, there's an immediate sour funk, with the oak hovering in the background. acetic acid, sour apple, champagne
T: (4) this follows the nose, with the tart qualities dominating
M: (4) very crisp, spritzy. the taste lingers on the palate, likely due to the wheat and the strength of the acetic acid qualities. acid reflux finish

T - The taste follows the aroma. The taste is very tart upfront with a taste of vinegar. The tartness mellows out mid palate with green apple and white grape showing up.

M - Medium bodied with high carbonation. Very crisp mouthfeel with dry finish.

O - This was a very refreshing beer. Perfect for a warm summer of fall day.

On draft, pours a clear, super pale yellow. The carbonation looks a little off, with zero head, very still. It looks like pale apple juice

The nose is pear, white grape, a little bit of oak, with bread dough and yeast. There is a little bit of sweet funk coming through too. The flavor is slightly tart, more pear and apples, grape skins, a bit dry. I get lots of wood on the backend of this. Mouthfeel is fine, this is very drinkable, but the dry and tart don't go together well. This isn't my favorite from them.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a Prairie Teku glass, the beer pours a mostly clear gold color with an inch white head that stuck around a while. There isn't much lacing. The brew smells mostly like wheat/grainy malt, and some green apples and grape skins. Aroma is nice, but doesn't seem very tart. Luckily, the tartness really comes out in the flavor of this brew. It tastes like green apples, vinegar, white grapes, lemons/lemon peel, wood, earthiness and wheat/grainy malt. Mouthfeel/body is light, it's a bit slick and has low/moderate carbonation. I thought this was a good brew, it's certainly nice and refreshing. And at $5.99 a bottle, it's definitely worth a try at that price!
