Ahh, New Holland. I spent my college days in Holland. Those were pretty fun times and I recently stopped in to the brewery to see how it was doing. It is the same, which is both good and bad. Mostly just mediocre.

The place looks the same. Roomy, with tables and booths in the middle of the restaurant. There is a deck out back where people do sit, but mostly just go out to smoke at since you can't smoke inside. The servers and bartenders are mostly young, college-age people who are friendly. There is a separate game room with pool, video games and shuffleboard. This room has a separate mini bar that is sometimes up and running and sometimes not attended. The only thing that is different is that there is a bunch of merchandise hanging up in the front. It's a pretty obnoxious touch actually. Probably to tempt drunk college kids into buying something.

The beer is New Holland, clearly. Do you like New Holland. I kind of of do. Usually they have a couple of specialty beers. In fact, one of these was the Farmhouse Hatter which was the best NH beer I've had (speaking of which, I wonder if there are any reviews on this site). I took a growler of it out to my friend's cottage.

I'm not a big fan of any of NH regular brews (any of which you can have at the brewery - seasonals Poet and Zoomer are the best they have), so forgive me if I am not overly enthused about the quality and selection, which is fine if you like New Holland beer a lot.

I think of NH as more a restaurant than a brewery, sadly. It isn't open late (closes at 12) and I don't remember that ever being the place to really hang out and drink even when I was in college. Still, the food is quite good even if the menu is mostly typical food with a kind of West Michigan hippie spin to it. The tree hugger is a fantastic sandwich!

I should also mention that NH Brewery also offers their own wine and distilled spirits. This means that they have sort of a "we have something for everyone" selection. Some may find this admirable but I personally like my brewpub experience to be all about the beer.

If you are going to go, you might as well go on Wednesday since it is stein night (4 bucks to fill up a stein - which you must bring yourself).

Decent selection of beers on tap as well as their beer selection. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was pretty typical for a brew pub. Service was personable and polite.

Will definitely eat there again.

This was my introduction into the world of craft beer. I'm a Hope College graduate and when I was living in Cook Hall these guys were literally on the other side of the road. I enjoyed plenty a stein night here and had my first sour ale as well.

This is my favorite brewery to visit. They have a great selection of beers available only at the pub and the usual suspects. The food it what sends it over the top, great pub fare (meat and cheese tray is a must). And the setting in downtown Holland is great for summer strolls.

I liked the feel of this place. My daughter and I went for a late night dinner. Not too crowded, so we got seated right away. Nice size menu with a variety of items. The only bad part of our experience was our waitress. She was very slow to bring us our drinks. The place wasn't that crowded. I had asked for a second beer when I was halfway thru my dinner. She came back when we were both finished and ask if she could get us anything else. I asked for my other beer. She had completely forgotten about it. My husband came here on another night and thinks he had the same waitress because he had the same issue with his waitress. I would go back.

We stopped in on our way to the UP. We had 3 families and several kids. They accommodated us well. It was hard to see what they had on tap because the menu did not have an up to date list on it. Out of the 5 adults, I think 2 had been happy with their order. The others each had a menu item that had their slaw on it in some way. It was bad and ruined my BBQ sandwich. The waitress said that she thought it was bad and did not know why they still served it. That left me puzzled. the kids menu items are overly small and would not fill a 3 year old. This left the many kids disappointed. Now that I vented, the grown-up bar looked nice. The tap list on the other side (that we did not see) looked great. The place looks great and has a nice vibe. We bought some nice beers at the bottle shop next door. I would like to go back without the family and rock the bar.

Amazing food, add any of the pizzas and the meat plate to your order, you won't be disappointed. Their flights are perfect, the glasses are awesome and come in a cool metal holder. The bar is super chill, even when busy, and everyone is extremely friendly. Go to hatter days and make sure you check out the bloody mary bar the next morning.
