A 330ml clear glass bottle with a BB of May 2013. Picked up recently from a supermarket as part of a 4-pack. A winter version of the original Carling Zest; this is a low-ABV lager flavoured with fruit. The label states that it contains natural extracts of orange, spice and vanilla.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear pale-gold colour with light carbonation. A hard pour results in a large head of frothy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before dissipating. Aroma of very light malt with strong orange overtones and perhaps the faintest whiff of vanilla. No spice that I can tell. Meh.

Tastes of weak, watery malt with an orange flavour. Hints of orange essence, sugar and mild stewed leaves. Quite dry; no bitterness to speak of. Mouthfeel is thin and watery, with prickly carbonation. A faint aftertaste of harsh stewed leaves and acrid citrus essence.

None too impressive - hard to believe this is even beer. Watery, tastes mostly of orange essence with an artificial quality to it. Virtually no body; you could fool yourself into thinking that you're drinking a sort of orange soda with off-notes. Not a nice winter brew and not recommended. I suffer so you don't have to - avoid.
