Coir Boiz Imperial IPA with coconut (8%) brewed in collaboration with The Veil Brewing Co. is our tribute to hops and the connection between coconuts and hop farming. Hops are trellised with coir fiber rope which is made from coconut husk fiber so we decided to make an IPA with Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops aged on 400 lbs of coconut. Sing the praises of hops!!

L - dark yellow in color with a turbid body. The head disappeared immediately like soda.
S - Odd, overly sweet coconut flavor. It's like snorting a Mounds bar. Cant find the citra, but Nelson adds slight white wine and white grapes. A pleasant toasted aroma is here too.
T - That coconut is terrible. It so sugary and artificial and it casts a shadow over everything else. Moments of orange sherbet and white grapes aren't enough to save this. Burnt buttered popcorn and a metallic taste add to the unpleasantness
F - Creamy texture and lots of carbonation. Drinkabiliy is low.
O - Bad collaboration. Coconut took over and tasted horrible. Both breweries have made good beers on their own, but this tag team just got counted out.

Had to laugh when I saw the label for this but I'll also admit that I'm not a big coconut fan. I never eat it and even when I was a kid, I gave away all my Mounds and Almond Joy every Halloween. Thankfully, this beer didn't have a strong flavor of it but if you're looking to get away to Margaritaville with something fermented, this would be something you'd want to take along for the excursion!
Typical Other Half look to this beer - murky, off-goldenrod, and complete with a bit of sediment at the bottom of the liquid. Amazingly, the head faded *very* fast and loud as it never re-appeared when I poured the rest of this out. Very little lacing was left on the side of my teku glass as well, which alluded to how thin the liquid was. A faint nose of coconut, pineapple, and pina colada could be detected with all of those coming out a bit more in the taste. Tropical, sweet, and light, I couldn't pick out either of the hops used in this in any way, shape, or form. Not much slickness in the aftertaste and the hint of pineapple and orange juice didn't last long either...
The amount of alcohol here was well-hidden as this tasted like a juice bomb - minus the dank, bomb part. Dated 7/21 on the bottom of the can with "NO JOE & JOE?" written below it, this wasn't a bad beer as much as it seemed to miss the mark. Coconut lovers might like this but in the end, this was more of a novelty than anything else.

Canned 8/21/17 or is it 6/21/17?
Moderate pour yields virtually no head and absolutely no lacing. Body is cloudy, murky yellow. Nose of coconut and some tropical fruit. Tastes of orange and some coconut. Flat. Overall, WTF? How did they let this abomination leave the brewery?

Other Half / The Veil - Coir Boiz
DIPA with Coconut - canned 7/16/17 (42 days ago)
L - Murky yellow body with a miniscule 1/8 inch head that's gone in a flash. Not used to that in an Other Half ipa!
S - coconut, melon, honey.
T - the coconut is present but in the background. Honey is the primary thing I'm tasting. It's quite sweet.
F - medium. A much thinner body than usual for OH.
O - I can't decide if I like this one. It's different, I'll give it that. Reminds me of Tired Hands' Pineal quite a bit. Definitely one of the sweeter IPA's I've ever experienced from OH.

The aroma is so coconut forward and I love coconut. However I have tried this batch of beer 4 times assuming it just needed some time to settle. It is like drinking acid with coconut flavor. Worst beer I have ever had from Other Half or collabs.
