OK. Initially I thought the New Year’s Eve tasting was less than thrilling. Yeah, it was complex, interesting, potent. But hey it was New Year’s Eve yeah? So I figured I’d buy another can and drink later when my mindset might be more objective.

Fast forward, some of my beers got pushed to the back of the fridge and this was one of them. When I rediscovered the 2nd can this week, I immediately kicked myself for losing track of the inventory and dreadfully assumed this drink was going to be a very disappointing experience. Obviously MY BAD for waiting five months before reviewing this.

HOWEVER thIs 2nd can (5 months old this week) is still a wonderful, repeat WONDERFUL beautiful beer that has aged gorgeously over time. IMHO, the genius of a great brewing of IPAs is Calibrating the longevity of maintaining 1st day freshness or ensuring the aging tracks like the clocking of the finest of fine wines.

Fortunately, the folks at Other Half have figured this all out and this latest batch of Triple Citra Daydream at 5 months is nothing less than a masterpiece.

With this in mind, I plan to give New York a call to congratulate them and seek to understand of their mastery of the fountain of youth.

Other Half Brewing Co. "Triple Citra Daydream"
16 fl. oz. can coded "11/25/20". Sampled on 12/17/20

Notes via stream of consciousness: Triple Citra!!!??? These guys are crazy! AND it's 10.5%? Or does that mean it's a triple IPA? Let's find out... it's poured a cloudy orange-ish body beneath a full head of yellowish foam. The aroma displays hoppy resins, a tropical fruit hard candy, pineapple, mango, guava, soft lemon, and pine. It's pretty intense! On to the taste... full and rich, and loaded with all of the previously mentioned notes. Is there anything else? Yep, there's some papaya... tangerine, spiciness (perhaps from alcohol, red berry, floral character,.. I think that's all that I can find but you might find something else. In the mouth it's medium-full in body and quite smooth and velvety. The head held up quite well, and it's left some pretty solid sheets of lace that reveal rings within. Overall it's a little intense if you're thinking of drinking all 16 ounces, but as a small glass, or a full pint, it's a remarkable treat.

Pours a hazy golden color with a great looking white head.. Smell is citrus ,melon.apricot. Taste very fruit forward with pungent citra hops. Mouth feel has medium carbonation with a milkshake feel and ABV well hidden. Pricey single and 1 was enough for me .

16 oz can. 11/25/2020 on can bottom. Looks, smells, tastes, feels like apricot nectar.
Thought it would be hard to drink the whole pint, but it wasn’t!
A Wow beer, stands out in the now crowded field of similar style beers.
Limited distribution to my area, so $8/can, but worth it.

Traded for this a while ago, even though I wasn't sure when since the writing on the bottom of the can was illegible. All of the daydream beers from Other Half have been outstanding and this was no exception as it was just as softy and dreamy as the label indicated and for being as old as it was, it was certainly worth the wait!

Nice pour to this as the liquid was a hazy peach with a bit of light sediment floating around in it. Not a lot of head topped it off and even less lacing was left behind as I worked my way through it. Tons of peach and cream filled the oh-so-soft nose as neither of them felt artificial in the least. A chewy oat body, pineapple, and overripe tropical fruit entered the fray as I worked my way through this and it warmed up. Tingly, tangy, and subtly slick, this had a wonderful mouthfeel that complemented the initial lactose sweetness as dry lime and a dank hoppiness emerged in the aftertaste once I (quickly) put this away...

Lots of booze in this one without a lot of carbonation to take the edge off but I could only feel it as a warming effect took hold on me right before my last sip. Plenty of body and flavor made this a clear winner as it was easily one of the better Other Half offerings that I've recently had. Sure, the label's beautiful but it's a real joy when the liquid inside is just as wondrous to behold. Can't wait to get another can of this!

L - pours a dark, hazy murk. Brownish orange. Flat. Pretty good headroom here. Fluffy with decent retention.

S - thick and resinous. Peachy cream and dank onions. Juicy fruit with hints of overripe jackfruit. Sticky orange candy and lime juice.

T - thicc. Might even need another "c" for this one. Jet Puffed Funmallows (those fruity multi-colored marshmallows). Lactose-infused peach candy, like a smothering blanket of flavor. Ripe banana, cantaloupe, and sweet, mildly zesty lemon lime Gatorade with berry warmth. Finishes smooth as can be with a dash of buttery grape candy. A little dry, a little numbing.

F - thiqq. Like bisquick. The oats and boosted ABV add a massive milkshake creaminess. Feels like drowning in quicksand, but the sand is beer, and it's not quick. Well, it can be quick, but you'll end up passed out in the neighbor's lawn fertilizing their grass.

O - this one packs so much punch and hits so hard. Usually not a huge fan of their Citra variants, but this hits every spot, even spots I didn't know I had. It's heavy and thiccqqck af which makes it a sipper, but that's a good thing because of the aforementioned backyard adventures otherwise.

Appearance: Pours like nectar, with a cantaloupe color; the head is creamy and rises to one finger; spotty lacing

Smell: A dank combination of peach, mango, pineapple and orange

Taste: Mango and peach forward, with the pineapple adding sweetness; hints of banana, coconut, and vanilla add a tropical cocktail and creamsicle aspect; dank orange flavors bring a moderate level of bitterness to offset the sweeter tones

Mouthfeel: Very creamy with a medium to full body; moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: On the heavier end of the Other Half NE IPAs, it is excellent for what it is, though I prefer a lower ABV and more delicate beer

First and foremost, this IPA is 4 months old - so to hell with that. That being said, it’s kind of like that one time my baby mama spent too much time in the sun in Laguna; she came home and was all crispy and stuff, but it still didn’t stop me from doing the ‘thang thang,’ you feel me? Of course I’d prefer if my girl didn’t look like a lobster, but still, it wasn’t all that bad.

Yep!

Pours an entirely hazed yellow color and a smaller, bubbly head.

Packs a pleasantly intense sugar glazed citra punch on the nose, softened by orange zest and a lighter grassy note. Develops a prickly exotic fruit note of ripe mango and fresh cut passion fruit, adding a pleasantly, lighter zing to the aromas.

Drinks utmost soft, creamy with a refreshing effervescence after the swallow. This has doubtlessly one of the smoothest mouthfeel I‘ve ever encountered in an Ipa so far, hiding the high abv in this in a perfect fashion. Due to its intense thickness the beer takes a little longer to drink, apart from this, this goes down amazingly easy with an outstanding hop intensity.

Tastes of a slowly starting, steadily increasing lime intensity, starting off with a candy sweetness, becoming more fruity then, while finishing quite bitter. Offers additional oranges, light notes of papaya and fruit sorbet coating rock sugar. Finishes with a long lasting bitterness, soothed by the crazy creaminess and the rock sugar, allowing a note of passion fruit to add in.

This is intense, while at the time the beer drinks surprisingly easy. The citra hops produce a fantastic depth, highlighted by the unreal creaminess, together with a long lasting, intense bitterness. Definitely a fantastic display of the citra hop, representing the style perfectly.

Canned about a week ago.

A: Pours a light orange-straw color with a half finger of dense, foamy off-white head. Streaks of lacing and pretty good retention.

S: Sweet, juicy tangerine and sharp red grapefruit, and light floral notes in the background.

T: Burst of tangerine and red grapefruit, a bit of pith and chalk, moderate sweetness complementing the citrus flavor. The sweetness is fatiguing after awhile; this has more in common with a barleywine than an American IPA.

M: Luscious, super creamy, medium-full body with light carbonation. Mild alcohol warmth; pretty impressive given the ABV.

O: Bursting with aroma/flavor, but the sweetness and hefty body really curtain the drinkability.

Canned 11 days ago.

The look is glowing hazy orange with a finger of off-white head.

The nose is peach, pineapple, orange, and dank hops. Somewhat muted for the ABV.

The taste, however, is not muted at all. Huge pineapple and mango juice with subtle sweet booze on the backend. Hints of banana, coconut, and vanilla. This definitely has a boozy kick, but it's actually welcomed. More of a liqueur depth than heat. I'll probably hold onto can #2 for another couple weeks and see if it's smoother, but it's already very good.

The mouthfeel opens silky and near-full before wispy booze peaks through on the backend. A really deft use of lactose, and that's not a sentence I say often.

Overall, pretty awesome for what it is - a new-school hop explosion.

Can: Poured a completely opaque beige/yellow color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention with some lacing. Aroma of huge citrusy notes with light tropical notes is very enjoyable. Taste is a mix of dank notes with huge citrusy notes with nice notes of oat to tie everything together. Body is complexity full with good carbonation and nice creamy mouthfeel. Superb triple IPA.

Bright fruit on the palate - orange, grapefruit, pineapple - balanced by a subtle dank undercurrent. Sweet on the finish from the ABV. Soft feel and not at all boozy. World-class.

O: Another great addition to the Daydream series. Despite the high ABV this was a smooth ride and full of flavor.

Honeyed merigold shade of orange. Thick with haze, and a creamy white head. Papaya, pomelo, and ruby grapefruit aromatics. Slightly sweeter taste of tropical mango that is cut quickly by the burn of alcohol. Orange honey blossom, vanilla. It's silky and velvet smooth. I can't imagine drinking more than 1 can at a time, and even getting through one almost feels like a chore at times.

Pouring from a 16 oz. can into a Trillium Willi Becher style glass, this beer pours out an absolutely beautiful, bright orange in color and forms two fingers worth of tightly packed, white crown.

The nose brings a nice creaminess with a background of dank notes shining through. It’s got such a clean green-ness to it that it reminds me of spring.

Taking my first drink has me going directly to describe the mouthfeel. This thing is wildly creamy, from start to finish. It’s clean all the way through. It also has so little of the 10.5% ABV showing that it makes it officially dangerous.

The taste offers notes of tropical fruit; Papaya, mango. Oats float through the whole thing perfectly with the creamy lactose.

Overall, this does not disappoint one bit as my first Other Half ipa.

Delicious and super concentrated flavors - a little more intensely than I enjoy beyond a single serving. No doubt Other Half has nailed this triple ipa right where they want it and for me there’s no question they’re the best in the biz at this type of thing but I much prefer their hoppy beers that fall in the 8% range, give or take.

With a white big bubble head that doesn’t stick around.
Smell is very mangoish and maybe a little papaya.
Flavors are muted with some tropical notes and nothing over the top easy to drink for a big beer. A little sweet in finish
Good beer but I was expected more bursting flavor.

Pours a very could and murky light straw color, minimal head. Aroma is citrusy hops and sweet lactose. Big hop flavors: orange, lemon, grapefruit, pretty sweet, lactose creates a creamy sweet vanilla flavor that kind of works. I usually dislike lactose in an ipa. This was good. Overall a good beer, 10.5% abv is well hidden. Not my favorite, though - a bit on the sweet side.

11/6/18 canning of this 10.5% abv imperial oat cream IPA, which, in Other Half lingo, means it is brewed with oats and lactose... This beer features Citra and Citra cryo hops - presumably triple dry-hopped... Looks like a glass of orange juice with some foam on top... Packs a huge citrus character - very sharp and tangy - impressions of orange abound, with additional edge provided courtesy of lime and grapefruit notes... The body and profile is rounded off with deeper tropical elements such as mango and its green, unripe skin... Medium-full body is relatively smooth, but any softness is offset by the sharp edge of citric acid... Moderately sweet, mildly bitter... Not necessarily a favorite of mine, but I am hard-to-please when it comes to orange and sharp citrus - in a NEIPA, I'd rather something a little more "gentle" lol... Still, not something fans of the style or brewer should pass up...

A: Orange juice in appearance. Light to moderate carbonation leaving a light cream head that falls to smooth cap.

F: Citirus with more orange and grapefruit. Some tart fruits followed by mango and star fruit. Full of bready malts but well balanced with medium bitterness in the flavor.
