This big wheatwine was aged for one year in Woodford barrels we hand selected during a trip to Woodford last year, in fact they are the barrels from the bourbon we selected to pour in our taproom.

This one pours a murky and muddy looking caramel brown color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like concentrated caramel, chocolate, wheat, bourbon, oak, spice, toffee, and boozy molasses.

This is a top level barley treat. It's a concentrated and focused malt bomb, with loads of caramel, Rolo, and toffee, a bit of fruitiness, lots of oak, lots of bourbon, light chocolate, and a touch of indistinguishable spice on the back end. It's surprisingly not all that boozy tasting for how much bourbon I'm getting out it.

This is smooth, creamy, and almost honey-like in feel, with no booziness and a surprising drinkability.

This should get bigger accolades and hype - it's a top tier barley(wheat)wine by all accounts.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some retention. Aroma of huge bourbon notes with caramelized malt and toffee notes is quite rich and enticing. Taste is also a mix of huge bourbon notes with some caramelized malt notes, toffee, vanilla with some bourbon and woody notes with some warming alcohol notes also noticeable. Body is full with good carbonation and alcohol is apparent. Huge barleywine with some really nice Woodford barrel-aging notes.

Mid sized botle, purchased at the source in BKLYN about 6 months ago...stored in the fridge since then.

Pours darker brow, moderate darker khaki cap, Leaving luxorious low sheeting.

Malty nose, with caramel and vanilla.

This is an over the top delicious and rich malt bomb...more vanilla, more caramel, maple syrup, whole wheat bread....mighty fine and well worth a try....go get some next time it is available.

Pours a murky dark amber, minimal fizzy head. Aroma is boozy at first, then brown sugar, dark molasses, vanilla, raisin. Flavor has loads of dark brown sugar and molasses, barrel flavor is well balanced, some dark fruits appear near the end, some raisin and toffee on the finish. Carbonation is minimal. Fairly full bodied, syrupy. I thought it would be much sweeter considering the abv, but it is really well balanced and not overly sweet. Overall a fantastic BA Wheatwine, this should be an up and coming style.

Decanted from a 16.9 oz (500 ml) bottle into a customer taster pint; no production information, but purchased at Other Half Brewery in April 2019.
A: Pours a murky brown color with a solid, one finger, wheat colored head, limited retention (mostly a cap and rim), and minimal, albeit a touch of, lacing.
S: Aromas of cookie, bourbon, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, and plum/raisin/fig all evident. Spicy (all spice, cloves, a touch of cinnamon). Very much akin to a freshingly baked plum pudding.
T: Solidly sweet. Flavors follow after the nose rather closely with cookie and toffee, cocoa and vanilla, brown and caramelized sugar, raisin/fig, and spices. Very limited bitterness, but not absent, simply subsumed under the sweetness.
M: Full bodied with solid carbonation. Rich and chewy. During initial pour, cleared in a way almost akin to a nitro offering.
O: Gold Strap is exceptionally delicious, but not for all occasions. Holidays, celebratory events, though, I can see. Just gorgeous.

Picked this up at Other Half last month when it was released, as I really enjoyed the other Gold Strap that I reviewed on this site. This may have been even more impressive than that as it was so incredibly smooth and easygoing, given the amount of alcohol that was in this; so much so that a beer like this may even win me over to American Wheatwine Ales, which is not the first style that I reach for when looking for something to take home and put into my queue!

Fabulous pour to this as the dark brown liquid had hints of wheatwine brown around the edges that let in just a bit of light, with a sufficient and long-lasting khaki head to top it off that was not only long-lasting, but beautifully complementary to the liquid below it. Most of the lacing left behind slid away and didn't hold it's ground but no matter - there was just enough bubble and carbonation here to keep this from feeling too heavy. Loads of caramel, bourbon, booze, and wheat malt in the nose as this came across as rich and sticky. The taste was unbelievably smooth with a strong, old wood-barrel feel to it with honey stickiness and an underlying sense of Mead on the palate. One of the smoothest beers that I've *ever* had, this went down well given how incredibly potent and strong it was, even though that was only a number on the label to me...

By the time I finished this off, I could feel the alcohol hit me even though I never tasted it at any time that I was sipping this. A connoisseur's beer if there ever was one, there was a lot to love here even though this wasn't typical by any means. Beers like this are proof that Other Half can tackle, and nail, any style that they take on and thankfully, those of us in the know are better for it in the end!
