Pours cloudy orange gold color with a 1-2 finger thick foamy off white head that faded very slowly and left excellent foamy lacing. Standard OH looks.

Based on the smell and taste I don’t think I like Riwaka on it’s own without other hops in the mash. It smells like pine cones, skunk weed, rye, herbs, Windex, minerals and some odd chemicals that resembled angel dust. Maybe that’s how the hop should smell, but I wasn’t digging it.

Flavor was a little easier to handle, but it tasted like everything in the paragraph above with the additions of ripe melon, lemon zest and some kind of cleaning solution. This may be the only Other Half beer that I may not revisit.

Jay, you're a good man. Thanks once again for yet another fine brew.

Chicken stock yellow as it settles in the glass, with what might be it's most impressive feature, the head. It's massive and looks like a scoop straight off a root beer float. Rocky, smooth, even slightly iridescent. The retention seems like forever, and the spotty lacing is very nice.

Not being well versed in Riwaka, I can say it very much reminds me of Chinook right off the bat. There's definitely a tropical fruit that I can't pinpoint, but burnt rubber, toasted sesame, and a hot iron skillet full of green peppers is unmistakable (to me).

And wow, does that flavor follow very well. Shishito peppers tossed in sesame seeds before a vanilla sprinkled nuttiness comes through. Hey, this is my review. Forget you if you think it's crazy.

Creamy and smooth, yet this time around, it definitely calls for sips with elongated intervals between. Light carbonation, surprisingly low alcohol presence.

Yet another unique, perhaps even one of a kind brew from my old transplanted pal. Other Half continues to deliver with boundary pushing experiences.

Turbid and murky body, dark colored (almost mango flesh), no visible floaties or flaws. Excellent head production, retention, and lacing.

Bright, herbal, and oddly spicy nose, with a rye-like bite that I can't quite place. It adds an element of pumpernickel to an otherwise citrus-forward aroma.

That oddly rye-like note is carried onto the palate, but very much in the background. Up front is an incredible array of tropical and citrus tones, almost a fruit milkshake or smoothie. The thick creaminess of the palate supports that impression. Lighter notes of cream and vanilla; waves of mango, papaya, lemon, avocado, banana, berries, orange, lime - but no acidic citrus bite. Incredibly drinkable for the high ABV.

The presentation of this beer is otherworldly. The mouthfeel, for an 8.5% NE-style IIPA, is simply perfect. The Riwaka hop highlight is interesting, and certainly very tasty - but equally unique.
