Baklava? I hardly knew ye even though I grew up in the land of Greek diners that were open 24/7 and served this as good as anything found on the Aegean Sea. To top that off, this was an *imperial* Porter that was way stronger than what I've had, or what was typical, for this style. That wasn't to say that this was a bad beer, but this took a while to get used to as it felt more like a Stout without the overt hops or booze as this was bit more light and brown to the senses.

Of course, this poured dark and silky with a moderately brown sugar head topping this off. That settled quickly as there wasn't any lacing left behind as I worked my way through this. Tons of honey sweetness, cinnamon spice, and baklava in the nose as the taste was full of dough, brown sugar, and booze as it gave this the body and heft that elevated it from a typical Porter to something unlike anything that I ever had before. Hints of plum, dates, and currant gave this the murkiness and fruitiness that took this to another level as the frosting and overt sweetness took the edge off of what could have been a much harsher beer...

Yeah, there was a *lot* of booze to this and it was quite overt although it didn't detract from how I felt about this. Canned on 12/18/19, this held up well over the last three months as the sediment at the bottom of my pint glass was minimal. Sure, this was quite dark, sweet, and a bit exotic but in the end, the honey sweetness and spicy nuttiness took the harsh edges off and made it accessible for someone expecting something lighter and fluffier. This was fun and enjoyable but only for those who could take the time to enjoy the nuances that an "Imperial" Porter could offer.

This beer tastes like baklava. Baklava tastes like honey and crispy pastry dough. It is kind of one note - this beer, doing a good job, is also one note

It tastes like honey and malt with just enough balancing bitterness to keep it from being too much to drink.

Not all pastries are great potential pastry stouts I guess. Not a bad beer. Just hard to appreciate on a nuanced level because of the conceit.
