Poured from a 16 oz can dated 09/22.

This beer is hideous. It's a murky, reddish brown color that looks a bit too much like diarrhea. The cream colored head is decent, but dissipates quickly. Some decent lacing left around the top of the glass.

Fortunately the aroma is far more pleasant. The simcoe hops really pop here and are very noticeable each time I take a whiff. Very earthy. The sweet, bready malt is also present and gives the aroma some nice balance.

The malt takes the reigns on the flavor but the earthy bitterness of the hops are still very much present. A bit grainy, but sweet. The hops really come forward on the back end giving the beer a nice, piney character. Nothing spectacular, but very well balanced.

The mouth is medium bodied with good carbonation. Drinks like a much heavier beer than it really is.

Overall, a beer that proves you can't judge a book by its cover. It looks like liquid poo, but it tastes pretty damn good. Very well balanced with a nice aroma.

I won this beer playing darts. For a free beer, it tasted good.

Like with most Bissell Brothers brews, the locals love it, the rest of us just kind of like it.

Not in the same league as the big boys of hops.

Had on tap at brewery. Pours muddy orange brown, opaque with a thin head but nice lacing. Aroma is pungent with citrus tones and pine mixed with yeasty malt. Taste is hpps up front, very bittet on the tongue as well. Medium malt body blends well with hops. Feel is creamy smooth.

In an age of low malt this is a great take on an amber with the glutinous bright citrus hops and creamy flaked oats feel. Great job.

Appearance: Yes, it is a cloudy, cidery color (not the prettiest for sure) but what a magnificent head and just look at the curtains of lace that are left behind

Smell: Caramel with bright stone fruit and dank hemp tones

Taste: The caramel base underpins from start to finish (this is an Amber, after all) but the hops emerge and hang tough, bringing stone fruit and hemp flavors; moderate bitterness, through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Remember folks, this is an Amber, not an IPA, and as an Amber it has everything I would want; well done

Thanks, cp45, for the opportunity

A - Poured into my austin street brewery glass, got to keep it real with industrial way, a dark amber, hazy but not opaque, color is like grade B maple syrup. 1 finger head dissipated quick but left bountiful fresh lacing and a nice foam cap.

S - Alright this is two weeks old and I had one out of the 4 pack the day it was dropped at bier cellar in Portland, and the aroma is just as pungent. This is going to be a long drawn out diatribe but its well deserved. Go to your local homebrew store, buy a one ounce bag of simcoe hop pellets. its like $2.00 just do it. Cut open that bag and shove your nose in it and inhale. Take a hit of those hops. Let the oils hit your nose like a lusty lupulin love factory. That is what this smells like when you pop the top on this 16 ounce can. This smells better than heady topper, and this isnt even Substance im talking about, this is an amber ale. Done.

T - After the long diatribe of hop aroma, there is a surprisingly prominent malt character providing a perfect balance. The nose was all hop bomb, the taste is a refined well balanced beer. Still not lacking in that simcoe pine, tons of hop flavor through the palate all the way to a bitter quenching and lingering hop finish. Malt as I said is a nice strong partner to the hops although it fades as you get through the pint, from a toasty cereal with darker toffee notes to an almost peppery rye. Probably palate fatigue ensuing from the bountiful hops. Just another thing to add to the complexity and greatness of this beer.

M - ample carbonation, medium body, although highly crushable. 5.6% abv never seen this much flavor.

O - sorry for the long review, and my rating will probably deviate higher than the masses. But cmon, I have never had beer this good brewed in Maine. And this isnt even the flagship brew. Im Mainebrewing, I know Maine beer. I deeply appreciate the effort and execution. The flavor they get into 5.6% is just amazing, I can drink these all night.

Just a side note - This is my 100th review... I was saving my Cherise from Allagash to celebrate 100. No complaints, this amazing brew deserves it.
