Traded for this a while ago, as the date on the bottom of the can read 4/12/18. I haven't had a lot from Bissell here at home but this was probably the lightest of the bunch that I've tasted anywhere. Soft and nearly creamy, everything blended in together with the result being a full and easygoing American Pale Ale that tasted and felt a bit like a New England IPA!

This had a goldenrod hue to it that was milky and relatively bright. Plenty of head topped it off sa the lacing left behind was extensive but not near the top of my pint glass. Grass, wheat, dank hops, and urine could found in the nose as they were evidence of the wide range of ingredients used in this. White wine, melon, and oats entered the fray in the taste although none in particular were too strong or overpowering. Plenty of slickness on the palate and not a lot of carbonation, which allowed for each sip to go down easily although the aftertaste was a bit drier and chalkier than I would have liked.

While not a true session beer, it would have been easy to crack another can of this open had there been one around. No sediment or floaties here as this looked relatively new and tasted as fresh as could be. Lots of yeast and an unusual flavor profile made this different than what I'm accustomed to but as a diversion, this was a pleasant change from what I usually imbibe in. Worth a go once for the uniqueness factor.

Pours a cloudy, golden yellow with a small head.

Smells Earthy with a light citrus. Maybe lemongrass.

Has a light citrus flavor with pine and malt on the back end.

Has a very light mount feel with a smooth finish. Almost like a cream ale.

Pours a cloudy yellow gold color with a offwhite one finger head.

Aroma is light. I'm really only getting earthy yeast off it.

Taste has earthy notes up front. A bit of citrus comes through in the mid taste to finish. Not sweet and not too bitter. Nice clean flavor though.

Feel is soft and a little creamy. Full bodied for a pale.

This is a tasty, rich-tasting pale ale however it is not the typical hoppy flavor from Bissell. I kind of like this one for that reason. You can still taste the yeast in it though - a Bissell signature, maybe more than some would be comfortable with.

Finally got around to hitting up Bissell Bros this past Friday with friends! Got there a bit before opening so we could immediately snag cans and get some samples before hitting the rest of the Portland breweries we wanted to for the day. BSW was the release for the day, and I was happy to grab one of the first four-packs released!

This beer pours an ugly, opaque pale yellow/cream color... not attractive looking in the body, that's for sure. Luckily, the wheat malt helps keep the head up and the retention very strong. A thick and intense several fingers of foam collars my glass. Nice legs here, too with a bit of solid lace backing everything up. I just don't like that color... it's a few SRM too pale for me.

I love all the hops used in this beer so I was very pumped for the nose, but it mostly blends together into a rather nondescript melange. Not that any of these notes are bad, by any means, it's just the beer kind of seems to not favor any particular element too heavily. The subtle wine-like note of Blanc, for instance, gets kind of drowned out by Galaxy, and Motueka struggles barely to the surface with its light citrus and spice notes. I mostly get resin, ripe passion fruit and ruby-red grapefruit character. Some subtle white grape skin comes out after a little bit, making me think of Blanc, but it's not enough for me. Solid stuff, but it's just too bland-smelling and homogeneous. Nothing pops out, in my opinion.

Flavor profile is pretty solid; nice wheaty chewiness with light, light biscuit undertones and flavors of grass, pine, passion fruit, papaya and grapefruit. The beer has a light mouthfeel and rather easygoing finish despite the hefty incorporation of wheat on the tongue. I think this is kind of like a less-good Fort Point Pale Ale despite the good concept and freshness going on. The body is probably the best thing about this beer; it's simultaneously fairly-flavorful and crushable and would work well in many Summer settings. Glad I picked up a four-pack of this one!
