500ml bottle into a tulip.

Look: Pours deep red, bordering brown with almost no light penetration just some lightening around the edges. A big tan head with good retention and lacing down the glass.
Smell: Oak, malt, vanilla, and a slightly tart cherry note.
Taste: Malt and oak up front, then funky cherry/vanilla and an ever so slightly bitter finish. Vanilla lingers a bit.
Feel: Medium body, small bubbles, high carbonation.
Overall: Love it. The oak comes through brilliantly here, and the beer balances the fruity funk from the wild yeast and the oak and malt character very well.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Deep red color, mixing bronze and rust like hues and appearances, and mostly opaque with a nice glow. Lots of snapping carbonation off the pour, a light tan head, somewhat khaki in color. Head eventually settles to a simple but slightly bowled collar.

Really nice aroma. Big whiffs of thick bursting sour cherries, with a mix of vanilla and thick malt qualities. Minimal sensing acidity on the nose, hints almost a black forest cake character. Really well placed nose and nothing overly excessive either.

Palate sticks to simplicity. Chewy almost taffy like flavors, but a simple light body propels the flavors. Candy cherry with a mild sense of sourness, and more of a bitting almost bitterness and pithy quality on the finish. Hits a little herbal sharp and almost menthol in some ways as well. Excellent mellow woody tones, which just give a slight push to the light body.

Very nice foedered brew. Glad to see these offerings from Right Proper bottled up!

A: The beer is dark amber in color—a little too dark and hazy to see if there is any visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high light tan head that died down a bit but consistently left a short head covering the surface.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of funk are present in the nose along with hints of oak.
T: The taste has flavors of oak from the foeder barrel aging along with notes of yeast and hints of funk and sourness. As the beer warms up, hints of pears also become perceptible.
M: It feels a bit more than light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a high amount of carbonation.
O: I really enjoyed the funky aromas of the smell of this beer.

Draft at the source in Shaw.

Sunset amber red body with a quarter inch of off-white head. Aromas of black currant, funky yeast, oak. Vinous and tart, akin to Russian River Consecration. Nicely done.

A: Pours a hazy muddy reddish brown in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint ruby red + amber + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of funk + oak over the top of light fruit (white grape + pear) yeast and pale + wheat malts with a minimal amounts of sweetness.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of pale + wheat malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate aromas of light fruit (white grape + pear) yeast. That is followed by strong flavors of funk and moderate flavors of oak. No perceptible hop presence and minimal amounts of bitterness. Moderate to strong amounts of lingering funkiness.

M: Slightly lighter than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of acidic prickliness and dryness in the finish.

O: Really enjoyable with a strong funky presence in both the aroma and the flavor. Easy to drink and refreshing.

On tap at Right Proper in Brookland.

Pours a reddish brown with low, wispy foam.

Smell is vinous with notes of oak, raisins and plums, and a hint of vanilla.

Taste is vinous and dry. Fruity notes of plums, cherries and vanilla blend with oak and a slight bitterness. Quite complex.

Mouthfeel is medium and well carbonated.

Overall, a very interesting beer, complex with plenty of subtlety.
