Bottled Jan 27 2018. CBF Tulip pint.

A: pours thick and syrupy, at first it refused to make a head, then after sitting a moment this thick, creamy, dark tan head formed and lasted. Zero light is getting through this bad boy. No lacing but the glass may not be super clean.

S: some malty, roasty sweetness. Toasted oats, cheerios. Are there oats in this? Kind of subdued for the style, actually.

T: initial arrival is malty and slightly sweet, transitioning to a roasted coffee bitterness. Dark cocoa, herbal hop note at the end. This goes roasted malt, lightly Sweet, coffee, then herbal hop. Alcohol is well hidden for 10.4%.

M: thick as all get out, but not as slick as some RIS's I've had. Lower carbonation, but it does not come across as flat at all. Really just right for the style. The more I drink it the more I appreciate the mouthfeel. Really excellent velvety texture.

O: some RIS's are super roasty, and some are super hoppy. This is neither; it is a very well-balanced and drinkable example. Less straight malt bomb than Great Lakes, less complex than Siberian Night, but the alcohol is less present here than in either of those. Well done. Would buy again. WRB is quickly becoming my favorite C-bus brewery.

A rich, complex Russian imperial stout. Lingering notes of brown sugar and caramel; both are noticeable but not overpowering. I'm very impressed with this.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a deep brown nearly black body. Two finger Brown head reduces to a layer leaving spotty lacing.

Atoms of dark fruit and roasted malt, sweet. Lots of flavor on the tongue, dark fruit and charred malt, dark chocolate. Medium body low carb.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via Savor Growl in Columbus. This delicious
RIS pours a deep blackish brown with a nice head of tan foam that settles to a
thick ring, thin light pool, and showcases some nice light lacing. Nose of rich
roasted malts, strong booze, bruised dark fruits, and rich dark bakers chocoalte
with light notes of coffee and char. Flavors ring proud and true with a rich dark
cocoa mingling with moderate mellow char and dark fruit notes of blueberries and
raspberries awash in dark coffee and subtle cream. Excellent mouth feel; full body,
lightly slick, coating, rich, low carbonation, and lightly warming booze.

One of the best of this style I have had in years and a brew that deserves more
attention-----could easily take a silver or gold for an American RIS any day.
Take note---this one is near perfect.

Cheers

The short version: f**ing fantastic! Slightly sweet. Dark. Caramel. Slightly burned flavor. Strong flavor. As good within this category as I've had (Russian Imperial Stout) .

Very smooth imperial Stout, but with a slight aftertaste that takes away from an otherwise excellent beer. Good nose, and a good coffee taste - no real chocolate presence.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into one of my tulip glasses, this beer pours a very dark, almost black color that's not interested in letting in any light whatsoever. Has a very tan head that's over an inch thick when first poured. has good retention and eventually settles to a very thick surface coating with a nice thick ring lining the inside of the glass. Aromas of roasted caramel and sweet milk chocolate malt sweetness along with roasted coffee notes and some dark chocolate hints. There's also a bit of a woody presence. The taste is pretty much the same, with roasted, milk chocolate and caramel malt sweetness upfront that gives way to some roasted black coffee and a bit of dark chocolate bitterness. My taste buds also detect a woody bourbon flavor a bit, but this beer is not wood aged, in either bourbon barrels or otherwise. Rounded out with a bit of an earthy hop flavor that adds minimal bitterness. Good balance of flavors, and they really gel together nicely once this beer has sat and warmed up a bit. Has a crisp, slightly oily and chewy, smooth and silky, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Goes down smooth with a clean finish and a nice, sweet aftertaste. Very easy to drink, especially for a beer with a 10.3% ABV. An excellent beer all around!

Bottle:
Pours a medium-thick looking oily black. A nice brown head forms and fades, but resurrects quickly with a swirl. Spots hold the glass but slide slowly down the coated surface.

Nose is a mix of cola and deep roasted malt, bordering on charred wood. With warmth and a quick whiff, deep roast coffee is the impression. There's a woody bitterness in there as well that seems more hops-based than roasted.

Slick, bordering on silky feel with subdued carbonation. The overall impression is more chocolate after the beer warms. Initially on a colder beer there was a little more division in the beer, roasted malts, then a little root cola, then a general bitterness. There's a little spice, as if from alcohol, on a warner beer, but chocolate (with maybe a few small bits of raisin) is mostly what I get.
