22 oz bottle, born on 10/16/20, poured into a tulip glass at 50 degrees F:
L - black with almost no head
S - vanilla, bourbon, malt, spice
T - so smooth, nice bourbon and vanilla on the nose, coffee in the middle, with a bit of heat at the end. Chocolate notes emerge as the beer warms
F - fairly thick mouthfeel, almost no carbonation
O - very nice, spices abound on the finish, but overall a smooth and well balanced stout

1 PINT 6 FLUID OUNCE bottle
Served in a snifter
2016

This beer pours black and is topped with less than an inch of mocha head that leaves no lacing.

Cinnamon is the dominant aroma. I get muted coffee and chocolate. Also get some light caramel and vanilla notes.

The taste is highlighted by coffee and cinnamon. Chocolate and bourbon seem to be an afterthought. I know this was aged for a year, but the bourbon is weak like the Ukraine.

Full bodied with super smooth, slick mouthfeel

I had a 2015 Dire Wolf Canis Mexicanus earlier today. It was a lot more flavorful than this version. I think the barrel aging killed off the great flavors that the base beer contains.

Tasted from bottle. Original batch which is think was Jan 16 so it’s aged over 2 years. Pours black with tan head. Huge robust aroma of cinnamon, coffee, chilies, bourbon. Taste up front cinnamon, coffee, cocoa, bourbon and chilies. Then the heat hits. Huge cayenne heat on the finish. More than I like. Would be incredible with less heat but still a very well done beer.

Light brown and clear on the edges to deep brown in the middle. A minor head ring remains after settling. Some lacing present.

Nose is bourbon, oak, coffee, a bit of smoke, and a bit of sugar.

Taste is initially soft bourbon, caramel, spicy peppers, muddled spices - vanilla, cinnamon, and a spicy coffee / oak finish.

Mouthful is medium to heavy and smooth. Carbonation is low. Finish is semi dry.

This truly a spicy stout and I can see why some would shy away. It definitely reminds me of Thai food where there is a lingering warmth, almost to a sweat. The peppers do dominate though and it is unfortunate. The other elements are very nice but some are muted. I would recommend this to anyone who likes spicy stouts.

The bourbon really comes through in the aroma with strong vanilla and oak. The coffee is pretty noticeable too.

The barrel seems to get burried in the flavor though. Mainly because the peppers are so dominant. Very spicy. A lot of heat/burn. Just short of being really overwhelming for me. The cinnamon does manage to come through along with a good amount of chocolate and coffee.

Nice thick, heavy body and it goes down velvety smooth.

Dial the chilis back just a bit and impart a hair more bourbon flavor this jumps into a small group of world class beers.

22oz bottle poured into can glass

A: Deep black with little to no head.

S: Peppers, coffee, cinnamon

T: Lots of cinnamon, coffee, peppers play nicely, really can't taste the bourbon

M: Nice thickness cloying

O: Very spicy imperial stout, nice tastes of peppers cinnamon and coffee. As it gets very warm light bourbon toffee vanilla comes out.

Black with flaming red edges and a thick, tan collar leaving behind some creeping wisps on the glass.

Lots of oaky bourbon on the nose is cut by a good, strong cinnamon kick with maple, wafer, and vanilla.

Maple flavor comes through big, apparently from the barrel. Oak and tons of chili heat take over, tingling the back of the throat, putting this just on the edge of being too much like Mexican Cake, but just barely not teetering over. I can see some being turned off by it, but this won't have you sweating. Cinnamon and vanilla complement nicely, but I like the complexity of the nose a hair better.

BB Canis is spicy, full-bodied and smooth. Complex like the Mexican coffee a favorite restaurant of ours makes...now if only I had gotten to try the espresso version!

Smells of spicy vanilla brown sugar and it tickles my nose and back of the throat just a tad. Chocolate and cinnamon are also pretty present. First sip is spicy, very spicy. Spice dominates and leaves little room for anything else. a little pipe tobacco and vanilla but not what I was expecting after all thy hype. Mouthfeel is pretty week also.

Reviewed on 6/10/16. Poured from bomber into large Bell's snifter.

Look- Almost jet-black, but not quite. Very thin light tan head that disappears instantly. Great lacing on the glass.

Smell- Cinnamon and vanilla burst through first. Smells like Cinnamon Toast Crunch with beer poured on top. I also get a touch of twang from the bourbon and a tiny tickle from the peppers. Outstanding!

Taste- Wow! Cinnamon and heat are the first two tastes. Kind of like Red Hots, but less sugar and touch of bourbon. Way more heat than Mexican Cake or Huna, and I mean in a good way. I get a tiny taste of bitter coffee.

Mouthfeel- I am a sucker for chili heat in my beers, so this is amazing to me. My mouth and throat are tingling and the scent won't leave my nose. Good carbonation for a barrel-aged beer and the beer is thick without being syrupy.

Overall- Wonderful example of what a spiced beer can be. For me, this beer is better than Mexican Cake or Huna, but not quite as good as BA Abraxas or DBH.

Pours black and is topped by a thin layer of brown head. You can pick up on all the different aromas and flavors (chilies, cinnamon, vanilla, coffee, and bourbon) with ease as you work your way through this beer. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Just a fantastic beer that is right up there with GNVP from Voodoo.

Right up there with the big boys. Sweet and spicy chocolate bourbon bomb. The only aspect I'd like to see improved is slightly thin mouthfeel. Best stout out of Columbus, OH!

This beer is exceptional. Exactly the right amount of heat (more than Huna / Mexi Cake), but not too much. Really good integration of the barrel with the cinnamon and other adjuncts. I was basically shocked how good this was.

Pours a viscous, solid black color with a thin light brown head. The nose is bourbon, heat from the chilis, cinnamon and roasted malts. The taste is slightly sweet up front, followed by cinnamon, heat and bourbon on the finish. Overall, it's an excellent beer with great spice level - it may be too much for some, as it is intense - and good bourbon notes. Another Dire Wolf variant winner.

Oh dear God. Old fasioned Christmas candy meets perfectly balanced spicing meets very well nuanced bourbon. This thing kills. Thick syrupy body carries sweet heat throughout. Touch of cloying sweetness on finish but a very present and pleasant burn continues.
