A Belgian beer hall. All of the beers are Belgian.

There's about a halfdozen taps and over a hundred bottles. They're well-curated and get in stuff you've probably never heard of and they also stock the classics. Nothing super-duper rare or hypey--they don't have Cantillion bottles just sitting on the shelf, or whatever--but still a very impressive spread. Also, they serve most of the beers in specially tailored (and branded) glassware, which is a really nice touch.

I stopped by around 7 PM on a weeknight, and the place wasn't very busy. It's a large facility--a literal hall--and they often show movies against the wall. The movies tend to be good (They Live, Steve McQueen pictures, etc), but if you're looking for either quiet or conversation, you should probably check ahead and make sure a film won't be playing. They also do dancing on weekends so it might get a bit clubby. (They also apparently do lectures and stuff? It's a big hall, so that makes sense, but the main point is: check ahead and see what's going on).

The vibe was upper-middle class and hipstery, like most places in Hampden. The bartenders are good looking and well-coiffed and kinda came across a little douchey, but I just might have been over sensitive. Aside from that, the vibe of the place is pretty minimalist. Were they not playing a movie, I doubt I would have remembered anything about the setup.

Hampden has no shortage of craft beer options, but it's nice to find a place that sets itself conspicuously apart. If you want local brews, look around. If you want some Belgians, well, duh, come here.
