Serving: 12 oz bottle poured into a Saint Arnold tulip pint glass.

Appearance: Clear, dark orange amber. Moderate frothy head and minimal lacing.

Smell: Lightly toasted grains, a bit of yeast and spice.

Taste: Toasty malt and relatively sweet (caramel, dried fruits?). A bit of hop spice and bitterness and hints of alcohol.

Mouthfeel: Medium, smooth body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Drinkable with a nice malty body, but a bit too sweet as with some of Saint Arnold's other ale offerings.

I tried this at Hopdoddy burger joint in Southlake, TX. It poured a clear amber with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had sweet malt. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt base. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer

Ok. I had this beer out of the bottle and straight out of the fridge the other day while watching football and was wholly unimpressed. This time I let it warm while I ate my dinner and poured it into a pint glass.

A- A lighter orange color than other Marzens I've had. Good carbonation but little head when poured into pint glass. (This is a recurring theme in my posts so maybe it's the fall crop of beers or maybe there's soap or hardwater deposits on my glasses. I don't know.)

S- I found the smell pleasantly sweet and even a bit grainy (not malty, but grainy). Overall, fairly nice.

T- As I mentioned, I was ready for the beer to underwhelm and was delighted when it didn't. It gave me a strong malt flavor followed by a sweetness that was dry and faintly apricot-y. Good stuff.

D- Light and quaffable. A good clean finish with just the slightest grain aftertaste.

O- I like it, but don't love it. However, it was better than the S.A. Oktoberfest I had recently which is saying something since it was one of my faves last season.

Give it a try.

12oz Brown bottle with twist-off cap featuring "Beer's looking at you" text and bottled on 07/29/2014. Poured into an imperial Pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep amber with 1/2 finger of head

Smell: Caramel malts and a little esters from the yeast

Taste: Bready malt with an underlying noble hop bitterness with a sweet finish

Mouthfeel: Creamy with moderate carbonation

Overall: So as far as the Märzen style goes, this features an ale yeast so its a bit creamier than most Oktoberfest and less of a crisp finish. Besides that, this is still very tasty and enjoyable in the same price point at Sam Adams Oktoberfest. This has more of a cloying finish than most Oktoberfests, so in my opinion this is just begging to be paired with a nice hearty fall meal. Makes me want to smoke a brisket.
