On tap at the brewery. This is a fairly complex offering. Lawnmower wort, in red wine barrels, Bret, two different saison yeast strains. Oh yeah, my favorite part, fermented in the barrel. Which is a high level overview of what went on here...
A: Pours a hazed golden/yellow color. A one finger white head forms and recedes quickly. Along with light lace. Served in a tall half pint, so assuming head retention and lace would be different with another glass type...oh well, who cares.
S: The aroma nocked me to the floor. Funky right up front. Hoarseblanket, if I ever encountered that in a beer is right here. Tart fruits with citrus orange and lemon peal. Pears, and apple skins. Light oak, even grape skins. Oh my, this is fantastic.
T: Surprisingly, up front I get more of a spicy phenolic yeast character, that is almost plastic like. Which is a little over barring up front at first. Eventually this mellows out, and orange peal, pears and tart apple skins come through. Grape tannins, and light oak.
M/O: A light to medium body. Well carbonated that is smooth and crisp at the same time. A bit tannin like, and slightly dirty. Though that is to be expected when re-fermented in a barrel with wild yeast. So enjoyable to drink, I could drink this all day at the brewery.
The nose is absolutely stunning. I do get a bit plastic phenolic character taste wise, but that eventually develops into the fantastic tart fruits, spicy yeast, light oak and grapes that one would expect. Overall, really well done.
