Dated 12/2016. Pours a very, very dark tan color. Not quite black. Has a 1/2 finger foamy head. Retention is very mild. Lacing is decent to good. Does have a chocolate aroma. There is cloves and dark fruits, maybe raisins. Taste more the dark fruits than I do the chocolate. Somewhat sweet with a very mild amount of spiciness, probably from the cloves. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

12 oz bottle pours a hazed dark brown color with a surprisingly small cap of tan head. Not much for retention and lace, especially for a wheat beer.

Nose has lots of banana and clove. Mild chocolate...more like nutella or maybe cacao nibs. Pretty good aroma, alcohol is a little rough smelling though.

I was hoping for a rehash of DR7, but this seems to be a different beer altogether. More fluid and rough around the edges is this weizenbock. The yeast esters are more muted on the flavor than the nose would indicate and I dont really feel like I get chocolate so much as a dry, cocoa powder flavor. Its not bad and I didnt have any problem polishing off a sixer, but I didnt go rushing back to the store for more either.

Poured from 12 ounce can with minimal tan head that receded quickly. Dark brown color with almost no carbonation. Chocolate, banana and cloves on the nose and palate. Overall, good beer but lost marks since it was nearly flat.

Serving: 12 oz bottle (stamped "12/27/16") poured into a 7 oz Libbey Gibraltar glass.

Appearance: Murky cocoa brown with a short lived head of tan bubbles. Lively carbonation bursts through a sticky looking surface. Not the prettiest beer.

Smell: Deeply caramelized malt, warmly fruity esters and hints of alcohol.

Taste: Rich, roasty malty body with banana fruit notes. Chocolate nibs nicely enhance the cocoa character of roasted malt. Sweet without being cloying.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full, just starting to feel a little viscous. Carbonation is lively but still soft and smooth.

Overall: Nice marriage of chocolate with weizenbock's banana notes. Tastes much better than it looks.

12oz bottle poured into pint glass. Bottled on 12/27/16.

Appearance: Pours deep brown with mahogany highlights, 1/4 finger of head that receded quickly

Smell: Banana and chocolate on the nose

Taste: The banana and clove notes from the yeast are up front with some roasted malt and chocolate in the middle to lead to a very balanced finish with some lingering roast notes

Mouthfeel: Full body

Overall: This is a very refreshing take on a Weizenbock. The chocolate really gives great balance to the rest of the flavors in the beer. I personally am not much for Weizen beers but this one is spot on for drinkability.
