Misc.: Quick review while playing trivia

One beer of many at The Common Table, which was near where I was staying (The Omni) on a recent work trip in Frisco, Texas. Went with the 10-oz. option for the majority of my reviews. Actually reviewed this while taking third in Trivia. That’s some pretty good multi-tasking. Was leading going into the final round but missed the final question after risking the max (20 points). Online description was, “French Press is an imperial coffee porter brewed with Java Pura Coffee Roasters Espresso blend coffee.” Was looking forward to having this one.

Poured a dark brown color with two fingers of khaki white frothy head. No noticeable bubbles underneath the head. Forgot to record lacing and retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled black coffee, espresso, toffee, vanilla, semi-char wood, caramel and chocolate milk. (Smell - 4.50)

Tasted espresso, toffee, vanilla, black coffee, caramel, chocolate milk, semi-char wood and roasty notes. (Taste - 4.50)

Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, roasty finish, (Feel - 4.50)

A tremendous coffee porter. Would love to have it again. (Overall - 4.50)

pours a medium brown with a khaki head leaves medium lacing around the glass, but has excellent retention.
nose is a ton of freshly roasted coffee. a touch of chocolate/vanilla.
taste follows. up front is a huge wave of fresh roasted coffee, mocha, light roasty bitterness, followed by rich bakers chocolate, some vanilla. No trace of alcohol. a slight earthy hop character
mouthfeel is slightly creamy, not too thick. lingering fresh coffee, and chocolate
excellent beer! dangerously drinkable. 9.4% ABV according to can.

A: Pours a dark brown, with some ruby highlights around the edges. A dense tan head rises to over two fingers. Excellent retention and lacing for days. This is a looker.
S: Big bitter.sweet coffee up front. Roast and chocolate linger on. Very simple, but still very enjoyable.
T: Much more nuance here. At first that big coffee character hits you right up front. Which becomes a little bitter sweet again. Roast of coarse, and an amazing bakers chocolate flavor. For only using only pale chocolate malts, this has a great chocolate character. Along with baked bread and a bit of lingering bitter roast in the finish.
M/O: A full body that is not overbearing, and has an ultra smooth body. Well carbonated, but just amazingly smooth. Just a bit of alcohol heat, but really easy to drink. I'll be getting more of this quickly.

This is all around excellent. I am glad they added this as a rotating/seasonal release. To many coffee stouts/porters now a days are overbearing...i.e. just a cup of coffee with alcohol or have an overly green peppery kind of flavor. This certainly has big coffee but has a lot of other nuance as well. Well done,.
