SADR#6 pours up with a moderate carbonation that creates a modest creamy beige colored head that manages to stay above the murky chestnut brown-sienna colored body. The clarity suffers from some serious permanent haze, but manages to sustain a thin, lacy head with various sized bubbles which indicate superior conditioning. The nose is very generous with a sweet caramel aroma that showcases an abundant maltiness with hints of burnt toffee, buttered rum, cinnamon roasted almonds, & vanilla cream complimented by some detectable fruitiness (cherry-vanilla, chocolate cherries, ripe figs) and a decernable hoppiness (citrus, floral, earthy) w/ hints of pipe tobacco, sherry/port-like notes that add to the overall complexity. This malty barleywine is dominated by a forward caramel sweetness that has an underlying toastiness with just a touch of chocolate that eventually gets undercut by a marked bitterness that continues to balance through to the bittersweet, creamy, spicy, toasty, warming finish which is surprisigly fortified. This medium-full bodied barleywine is certainly creamy, almost marshmallow-like with a plethora of malt characters that will keep the palate entertained trying to pick them all out. I'd like to see a bit more carbonation and the appearance isn't all that appealing, but I'd say this one has held up very well to father time so far. Drink em' if you got em' as I'm not sure how long this one will cont. to hold up? I certainly find solace in this malty tipple on a long, cold winter's night. Here's to the barley blessings of Saint Arnold!

Waiting 6.5 years to open one of these, not disappointed. Aged incredibly well considering it has moved numerous times to its final home. Pours a dark Carmel brown, brownish white laciness accompanies the pour along with the used sediments in the beer almost need to be filtered at this point not quite. I've never been a fan of barelywines, but this isn't hot or overly pungent. Feels right to me almost getting to the point that it is coming up past its prime, I have 5 more to score the next year or years. Beautiful to have patience for something that was good to begin with and let it evolve to grand.
