Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Weedwacker is essentially a Bavarian hefeweizen. Except it isn’t. Weedwacker is exactly the same beer as Fancy Lawnmower Beer but we ferment it with Bavarian hefeweizen yeast instead of kölsch yeast. It is light and refreshing but has a spicy clove note and some banana esters that come from the different yeast. Weedwacker is our only unfiltered year-round beer.

12 oz bottle into tulip. I think a date indicates 06-12-13. not sure if it is a best before or born on.

A: hazy bright blonde body. head is sparkling bright white. retention is pretty good. lacing is completely lacking.

S: definitely can smell the wheat here. a good bit of yeast esters also packs some banana into the punch. other fruit is in there too. apple and pear perhaps. sweet.

T: the esters are still there, even more sulfur notes. a sharp sweetness. residual sugars are strong. a bit too strong. wouldn't have hated for this to be a bit more dry in the finish. fruity as well. a bit of pear.

M: carb is frothy. body is light, almost medium.

D: not bad, but not great. would have liked it better if this was a dryer as stated above. otherwise a solid stab at the style.

Pours a hazy golden color with a finger width foamy head. Head retention is decent. Lacing is good. Aroma of banana, wheat and cloves. Strong and decent. Strong wheat, clove taste with the banana coming through at the end. Phenolic with a medium body and moderate to heavy carbonation. Somewhat creamy at the end. Very enjoyable beer.
