Treated as an American Double/Imperial Stout because that's what I thought it was, I poured this into a snifter.
I see on Beer Advocate that it is not. Oh well, next time I get one sent to me, I'll pour into a pint glass for proper review. Here's the rest on my take on this one.
The appearance was a dark brown almost close to black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about less than a minute. Some stringy lacing glosses all around the glass nicely.
The smell took in the pumpkin along with the spices (ginger, cinnamon, and allspice) and bleeds into the chocolate very nicely. Light coffee also comes in slightly in a roasty sort of way.
The taste involves the spices running into the sweetness of this package deal of the cocoa and pumpkin for a nice all around balance. The aftertaste is sly and mostly misleading as the cocoa and pumpkin start but end up sliding out as it warms. I think I liked that aftertaste but it just seemed different a bit.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation seemed to run right as a Double/Imperial Stout to me given that the stronger stout-like qualities and ABV allow less "pumpkin" spice to hit my tongue.
Overall, still, I liked it for me, no matter what BA says it is. I don't live in Texas, so I don't know the brewer's intentions though I don't think this is a straight up pumpkin ale. Just drink it and be happy.

Pours almost black with a tan head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is mild with hints of nutmeg. The taste, however, is anything but mild. Bold, almost harsh. Spice flavors and alcohol are dominant. Hops are a little too assertive for my taste, but tolerable. One of the better heavily spiced pumpkin ales.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar looking like a headless stout and a bit of a swirl adds a smidgen of foam and a few dots of lacing

Smell: Pumpkin pie spices jut forward, with cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg and clove; supporting the spices are chocolate, pumpkin, burnt brown sugar and molasses tones

Taste: On the tastebuds, the reverse of the aromatics, as the chocolate, molasses, burnt brown sugar and pumpkin tones support the spices through the middle; it is the spice flavors, however, that linger into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Had the Divine Reserve #9 in the bottle but this version, on tap was a much better experience

22 ounce bottle poured into tulip

A: Pours pitch black, no head retention, not much carbonation, strange, head fizzled like a fuse on a firecracker, all gone, cap came off real easy, strange.

A: Pumpkin, spice, nutmeg, not getting any stout notes, has a big aroma.

T: Pumpkin, spice and nutmeg upfront, then there's some stout notes like chocolate, dark fruits, moderate bitterness in the middle, finishes with a pumpkin and spice aftertaste, dry finish.

M: Medium bodied, slightly more, dry finish, a little low on the carbonation.

O: This is pretty good, lots of flavors, big flavors, it's pumpkin ale and stout nice blended together, picked this up in a trade but if available in my area I would buy it.

Yeah what can I say that has not already been said. If you are not into pumpkin beers and haven't had this one, give it a try and it may change your mind. If you are into pumpkin beers give it a try because it is one of if not the best around. Very comparable to warlock but smoother with a better balance of spices and flavor IMO.

Poured into a standard English stout glass.

A - 3.75 - Pours an extremely dark brown, almost black color. Forms up about a finger of tan colored, quickly dissipating head. No lacing to be seen. Weak head potential and retention, but forgivable at the high ABV.

S - 5 - Wow, what a spicy nose this beer holds. Ridiculous amounts of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, vanilla bean, pumpkin meat and just the lightest biscuity malt aroma.

T - 5 - Can't believe how good this is. This beer is SPICY, there is a huge amount of the aforementioned spices in the taste, its a ridiculous big taste, a slow sipper to be sure, but it doesn't taste forced or artificial, just really, really well done. A good amount of true pumpkin meat flavor, vanilla and a bit of malt to let you know this is indeed a stout at the end of the day.

F - 4.75 - Has a noticeably oily and decent thick mouthfeel. Goes down smooth.

O - 5 - This is hands down the best pumpkin stout I've ever had, Warlock can step aside because Pumpkinator definitely reigns supreme for me.

2014 poured into stout glass. Pours a dark brown color with small tan head that quickly dissipates. Looks jet black in the glass, no lacing to be seen. The aroma is big cinnamon, spices, nutmeg, brown sugar, pumpkin. Taste is big on the cinnamon and spices. I got more of the raw pumpkin, graham cracker taste as it warmed. Feel was creamy and smooth for a 10% beer. Overall, I thought this beer was best enjoyed when it was almost a room temp. This is definitely the biggest pumpkin beer I've ever had.

Nice, sweet pumpkin smell. Leaves a sweet after taste. Dark need to pour hard for a head.

Got it as part of a Halloween themed flight. A strong cinnamon flavor up front with more subtle pumpkin and nutmeg following. It has a crisp and clean smell and a smooth feel I the mouth. I will look forward to it again next year.

Not a whole lot of head was generated from my basic pour, maybe a half inch that turns to a skim in no time. Body is blackness that has only hints of mahogany when held to light. Nose is of smokey spice and sweet pumpkin pulp. The flavor profile here is unlike most pumpkin beers where there is a heavy spice and or pumpkin presence. There is black strap molasses, smokey dark chocolate and dark fruits that are slightly soured. Turns more choclatey as it warms up. I total recommend Pettit this beer warm to closer to room temperature before enjoying.

Poured from a 22oz bottle (bottled 10Aug15) into a Spiegelau stout glass.
LOOK: Pours with a finger and half worth of khaki foam that dissipates into a half finger's worth after 1 minute. Black in color with an orange tint. There is a large amount of very small rising bubbles. Lacing is thick and high.
SMELL: Has strong aromas of nutmeg and alcohol that combine with mild aromas of pumpkin, bittersweet chocolate and subtle aromas of molasses, cinnamon, and bitter roasted malts.
TASTE: Strong flavors of nutmeg and mild flavors of pumpkin enter initially. Mild bittersweet chocolate, molasses, and alcohol flavors enter right after. Mild cinnamon and hints of bitter roasted malt flavors enter lastly as all flavors persist, except for pumpkin, which grow slightly stronger.
FEEL: Medium-bodied with hints of carbonation. Goes down smooth, but not creamy. Ends with a dry finish.
NOTE: The alcohol perception was too much for me along with the nutmeg. Of course, if you love that alcohol warmth, you will love this beer. That being said, even with the alcohol bite that I do not enjoy, this was still a tasty brew.
