Brewer Sam Wright's Description: The recipe for Amarillo Hefe came from a beer I developed for my sister and brother in law's wedding. They wanted a hefeweizen for their reception, and I decided to put my own twist on it. Since some people like to put lemon or orange slices in hefes, I figured I could replace that with the bright citrus flavor and aroma of Amarillo hops. The base beer starts as a fairly traditional Hefe. As fermentation starts to putter out, a healthy dose of Amarillos are dry hopped to complement the banana and clove flavors of the yeast. The balance gives an impression of added spice flavor, but no spice was added. Just malt, hops, yeast, and water. Enjoy!

Serving: 12 oz bottle (marked "05/14/15") poured into a stemmed Pilsener (beer tulip) glass.

Appearance: Bright, hazy gold with quickly dissipating head of off white foam. Minimal lace and a slight film of bubbles persist.

Smell: Wheat bread, fruity (slight banana) and spicy yeast, lemon and lime zest.

Taste: Malty body with expected wheat and yeast notes, nicely balanced by bright citrus of the hops.

Mouthfeel: Light body with effervescent carbonation.

Overall: A solid hefeweizen smartly balanced by bright citrus character of Amarillo hops.

pours a cloudy kinda straw color with a thin, quick dissipating head. The smell is typical hefe with banana and clove aromas plus the citrus aroma from the amarillo hops. The tastes reflects the flavor exactly and I am a huge fan of dry hopping using the amarillo. Overall a very interesting interpretation of a hefeweizen beer.
