Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.40%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brewer Sam Wright's Description: The recipe for Amarillo Hefe came from a beer I developed for my sister and brother in law's wedding. They wanted a hefeweizen for their reception, and I decided to put my own twist on it. Since some people like to put lemon or orange slices in hefes, I figured I could replace that with the bright citrus flavor and aroma of Amarillo hops. The base beer starts as a fairly traditional Hefe. As fermentation starts to putter out, a healthy dose of Amarillos are dry hopped to complement the banana and clove flavors of the yeast. The balance gives an impression of added spice flavor, but no spice was added. Just malt, hops, yeast, and water. Enjoy!

The pour is a nice cloudy golden ale with a decent white head that was short lived with virtually no lacing down the glass.

The nose is sweet and fruity malt with a hint of the hops, vanilla, citrus and some bread.

The taste is a fruity semi sweet malt that has a crisp clean finish with a nice hop finish that is very well balanced.

The moutfeel is effervescent and light with a nice body that is just right for this beer style.

Overall this one is very good and very drinkable. I will definitely be drinking this one again.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a weizen glass.

A: Hazy light golden hue. Large bubbles of rising effervescence. Pours a half finger, bubbly, white head. Dissipates quickly. No real lacing.

S: Freshly cut grass, strong lemon and lime citrus.

T: White bread, with a nice bit of citrus, and what seems like a very slight hop bite.

M: Light body, a bit of a metallic feel.

D: Sessionable, but worth savoring.

Atmosphere is okay. Slight bubbly head, no real lacing. Grassy and citrusy nose. Generic bready flavor accentuated with a bit of citrus and a slight hop feel. Overall, this is a pretty good quaff.

Smell: yeast and wheat.

Taste: pleasant malts, light lemon and orange peel, and wheat.
