500ml bottle into a SP snifter.
Dark mocha head. Spotty lace. Thick, oily legs.auper rich and viscous. Nose is iced mocha with a scoop of vanilla ice cream layered in a bourbon barrel. Very aromatic. Beer opens mocha, vanilla, and molasses. Sweet and syrupy up front with a nice coffee bitterness for balance. More coffee, chocolate, and maple in the middle. Espresso, cocoa powder, booze, and a touch of anise to finish. Great complexity with flavors that really work well together. Body is full with low carbonation. Sticky and boozy on the palate and goes down rich and hot. Long, lingering, sticky aftertaste.
This is the best of the FO releases in 2023. A really impressive beer.

The glossy black body builds a short but dense mocha blanket that retains fairly well for the pastry onslaught it belies.
Ever since I first heard about this on-site, draft only treatment during their Fundamental Observation releases, it has long been a dream of mine to go back in time and try it--and can you blame me? But then they went and bottled it!
The fudgy brownie batterness of FO's vanilla treatment is still front and center right away here, but it quickly becomes apparent that the coffee addition has entirely transformed the final translation. It's like a charred and crunchy chocolate covered coffee bean that then develops a mocha chip and bourbon ice cream quality.
At the same time, I can't help but note how I continue to be in awe at just how expertly Bottle Logic can cleanly integrate bourbon oak expression in these flavor bombs. It's absolutely unreal.
Either way, while it's certainly not my favorite bottle of theirs, I'm so glad me and my friends were finally able to get over our FOMO.

Purchased at the brewery and poured from tap. Will update when I open my bottle. Pours jet black with a little bit of light brown head. The nose immediately screams coffee. Right after that, I get waves of intense vanilla, milk chocolate, fudge, and bourbon. Very smooth and intense. The taste does not exactly follow the nose. The coffee is light, but the creamy milk chocolate and vanilla excite the mouth immediately. Smooth coffee comes through, along with fudge, ice cream, marshmallow, blackberries, maple, and bourbon toffee notes. The aftertaste is very marshmallow dominant. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Overall, this one is sweet but not too sweet, and the alcohol is almost non-existent on the taste. Quite an incredible stout.
Jan, 2022 - tasted for the first time from a bottle. Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a thin layer of brown head. Doesn't stick around for long. The nose is coffee, marshmallow, bourbon, vanilla, milk chocolate, fig newton, and a slight hint of roasted malts. The taste is incredible. The coffee is front and center, and it's wonderful. Super smooth dark roast. Bourbon, vanilla, blackberries, brown sugar, marshmallow, chocolate, raisins, and a back end that has a touch of bitter roasted malts. The coffee and roasted malts really mesh well. The mouthfeel is so thick and creamy. Wow. Overall, just a phenomenal BA coffee stout.
