2020 vintage. 500 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Near black with a thin light brown lacing.
Nose: Blueberry and chocolate out front followed by vanilla. Bourbon underneath. Good balance.
Taste: Follows the nose. Chocolate covered blueberry up front with a moderate dose of bourbon and some vanilla presence from the marshmallow. Flavors integrate very well.
Feel: Full bodied and smooth with mild carbonation.

A barrel-aged stout with overpoweringly strong, artificial, IHOP blueberry syrup notes on the nose and palate. It felt more like a cheap breakfast at a chain restaurant than a refined craft beer experience.

Smaller foamy tan head, low retention but a bit of lacing, pitch black thick beer with long legs
Nose really wafts, I can smell blueberry muffin from a few feet back, up close is loads more blueberry, fresh and blueberry jam, sweet candy into mild cocoa, dark chocolate and a bit fudgey, mild caramel and roast, into big barrel, vanilla, light bourbon, hint of dark fruits
Taste big sweet candy and blueberry, more blueberry muffin and jam, sweet candy with light caramel, some roast and coffee, plenty of cocoa, dark chocolate that even gets fruity, fudgey, chewy, a little nougat, medium bitterness increases to a higher bitterness late, little nutty, caramelized sugars, vanilla barrel and mild bourbon, finishing a bit drier with more dark chocolate, bitterness and mild marshmallow, some hot alcohol
Mouth is rich thick fuller bod, creamy almost chewy, creamy fluffy carb, plenty of hot alcohol, not fusel

Received in a trade and shared with JLindros.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light lacing and thin wisps. Great legs.
S - Big aromas of chocolate and bourbon soaked blueberry muffins. Flashes of blueberry syrup and juice, light chocolate, bit of marshmallow sweetness. Bourbon seems rather hot.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of slightly sweet blueberry muffin. The chocolate is bitter dark chocolate, almost coffee like bitterness. Not much marshmallow. The bourbon is nice, little sweet vanilla, relatively hot but to be expected given the ABV.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, little creamy, finish is boozy.
O - Overall this was a very enjoyable stout. Excellent berry notes here with good chocolate bitterness. This is a very well done stout. A great sipper.

Matte black with a thin brown ring. Smell is pure and full: chocolate covered blueberry with vanilla and marshmallow, all backed by light bourbon. Taste follows, definitely on the sweeter end, but doesn't cloy. Blueberry is truly allowed to shine, probably the 2nd best blueberry beer yet. Bourbon is present with slight brown sugar and hints of molasses but only as a support to the adjunct stars, no wood. Feel is warm yet dangerously drinkable, super smooth and refined, lingers on the palate long after the sip. The wife loved it

Nose is rich vanilla, milk chocolate, a bit of blueberry, more chocolate, some marshmallow, and some toffee. Not overly complex, but insanely smooth and inviting. The taste - oh my the taste! Fairly sweet upfront, but definitely not too much. Tons of milk chocolate and vanilla. More like a vanilla ice cream flavor. Definitely a good dose of blueberry (comes through more on the taste) and marshmallow. Some nice rich roasted malts start to emerge, and a little bit of cinnamon. Other dark fruits, like figs and dates add another layer. Oh boy, the mouthfeel on this is super thick and creamy. The aftertaste lingers for a LONG time.

Wow. My only regret is not buying more bottles when I had the chance. Blueberry compote, s'more notes (brain may have been tricked into thinking cinnamon) - but graham cracker comes through and somehow the marshmallow. This is both in the nose and taste. Some predictable heat on the nose. But it doesn't come through in the flavor as much as it does the feel - which makes this a perfect night time, dessert or chilly night beer. Smooth going down. Very drinkable and you don't have to sip on this, but you should. Blueberry fans, DO NOT PASS THIS UP.

Great tan head with decent retention. Smell is what I’d expect from any beer Great Notion touches, which is amazing! Chocolate, booze and blueberry is very strong. Flavor is a bit softer on the blueberry as the chocolate, barrel, and marshmallow takes center stage. That being said however, the blueberry is still very much there, just balanced out by the other flavors.

2020 release bottle into a flared tulip
A: Opaque black with mahogany edges, cream colored head had limited retention and no lacing.
S: Marshmallow and blueberry dominate, dark chocolate in tow. Pleasant, but not cloyingly sweet. Hints of oak as it warms.
T: More dimension than the nose, adds depth of barrel character (vanilla, charred oak, bourbon), that keeps the sweetness in check.
F: Low-medium bodied with moderate carbonation, ABV stings the tongue slightly.
O: Considering how I find some Great Notion beers too sweet for my preferences, this one doesn't hit that spectrum. A great gift from a great friend, and I'd grab another without a second thought.

Choo! Choo! This train delivers like the one that brought Claudia Cardinale to Sweet Water in “Once Upon a Time in the West.” No, really, Claudia shows up all buxom and pouring out, and that’s exactly what Paisley is (except that we aren’t talking about a drop dead gorgeous Italian actresses, we in turn are talking about an Imperial Stout made in in industrial park in Anaheim).
Cheers!

Tan head. Black color.
Huge marshmallow and vanilla sweetness. The blueberry is integrated perfectly. It tastes like a pastry. Bourbon, chocolate, fudge. Thick and rich. Warming. Smooth. Full bodied.
This is extremely enjoyable. One of my favorite BL beers.
