Notes: With a first strike of port and a finishing blow of bourbon, these unique barrels amplify the roasted chocolate core of the base beer and further evoke soft flavors of raisins and preserves. Complex layers of deep port sweetness are fortified by cacao nib additions from Ecuador and Ghana to finish Resplendent Angel, our Angel's Envy Barrel Aged Chocolate Porter!

Disclaimer, I love chocolate and port wine. I have been wanting to try this for quite some time, and I am super stoked to have been able to from the source.
L: Pours the usual pitch black. It looks thick and like oil. A nice khaki ring is retained around the perimeter. Trace amounts of residual lacing left on the glass.
S: Chocolate bomb. It's natural, raw and rich. The perfect balance of sweet confectioner chocolate and bitter cacao. Dark fruit presence is prominent as well, resembling dates and raisins. Toffee and caramel also present but in minute amounts. Not getting much port barrel presence, but we will see on the taste.
T: Amazing. Chocolate forward. Smooth and rich chocolate, encompassing both sweet and bitter sides of the chocolate scale. The port barrel adds a welcome complexity to the finish, giving a fig/date/raisin lingering after taste. This flavor exceeds my already high expectations.
F: Full bodied with moderate weight. Smooth and silky. Carbonation is moderate for the style. Not quite motor oil status but still a desirable feel to say the least.
O: I went into this with high expectations and was very satisfied. My wife even enjoyed this one. I got a bottle of it I can't wait to try and compare to how it was on tap. This is for the books. I am very glad to have tried. Cheers!

Tasted from bottle. Pours black with brown head. More of a dessert beer. Very sweet and thick on the mouth. It’s chocolate galore on the aroma and taste. Caramel, molasses, and some raisins as well. Delicious and dangerous. Hides the abv incredibly well.

Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light lacing and thin wisps.

S - Big aromas of dark chocolate and fudge. Light port and bourbon along with chocolate chip cookies. Reserve aromatic.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of dark chocolate brownie and fudge. Not much port at all, however, the bourbon was pleasant. Flashes of alcohol as well.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, somewhat creamy, alcohol makes itself known.

O - Overall this was a solid enough stout though the chocolate was a bit faint and the barrel was somewhat over powering.

Had on tap at BL tap room. Excellent BA porter. As advertised. Exceptional display of cacao , bourbon and dried fruit. Complexity is excellent. Marriage of wood, old ale characteristics strewn in with a solid big chocolate porter. Love this one.

Draft. Darker black body, one finger offwhite head, good retention, no lacing. Smell is slight dark fruit, milk chocolate, slight nuttiness, good bourbon sweetness and slight smoky char, a bit of oak and warming alcohol. Flavour follows, a bit aggressive on the alcohol and bourbon, but otherwise a nice medley of dark fruit, milk chocolate, nutty malt and espresso roast. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, soft with solid carbonation, slightly warming boozy milk chocolate brownie finish.
