With a first strike of port and a finishing blow of bourbon, these unique barrels amplify the roasted chocolate core of the base beer and further evoke soft flavors of raisins and preserves. Complex layers of deep port sweetness are fortified by cacao nib additions from Ecuador and Ghana to finish Resplendent Angel, our Angel's Envy Barrel Aged Chocolate Porter!

550ml bottle poured into a snifter
A- pours black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that eventually reduces to a thin film on top
S- aroma is dominated by port; vinous, jammy red wine, raisins, figs & black cherries. Under the port, notes of creamy chocolate open up, as well as some bourbon that adds oak, vanilla and a hint of caramel
T- complex layers of chocolate initially, immediately followed by a blast of port; raspberry preserves, cherries, vinous red wine, dried figs and raisins can all be found. Mid-palate gives more sweet and rich chocolate, with the bourbon undertones poking through, adding a creamy vanilla note and a hint of oak. The finish gives more jammy port notes, with the chocolate and bourbon sticking around on the linger
M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a silky, slightly warming finish
O- the port and chocolate notes are so complex and mesh brilliantly, outstanding

Tasted from bottle. Pours black with brown head. More of a dessert beer. Very sweet and thick on the mouth. It’s chocolate galore on the aroma and taste. Caramel, molasses, and some raisins as well. Delicious and dangerous. Hides the abv incredibly well.

Shared with JLindros.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark black hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light lacing and thin wisps.
S - Big aromas of dark chocolate and fudge. Light port and bourbon along with chocolate chip cookies. Reserve aromatic.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of dark chocolate brownie and fudge. Not much port at all, however, the bourbon was pleasant. Flashes of alcohol as well.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, somewhat creamy, alcohol makes itself known.
O - Overall this was a solid enough stout though the chocolate was a bit faint and the barrel was somewhat over powering.

Medium smaller brown thicker head decent lacing, low retention, nice legs pitch black
Nose loads of dark chocolate cocoa fudge, roasted charred coffee and malt, vanilla barrel and caramel, mild cookie dough baking spices, light barrel and whiskey, hint port, vanilla ice cream
Taste big rich dark malts, tons of coffee roast, earthy char little burnt, big tingly fusel alcohol, dark chocolate, vanilla barrel, whiskey note, bitter roasted tannic malt, mild spicy bitter hops
Mouth is fuller rich bod creamy, rich, with decent carb but hot alcohol
Overall mixed, some great characters and some less so, to boozy and not enough barrel characters
