Ho-Lee-hell. This beer is Obama, Miranda Kerr, and Yasiel Puig all in one: everything that Raul loves. This dang sucker shows up on the scene hard. Miranda Kerr walking down Melorose, she owns it, yeah, I like dat. Then all of a sudden Obama comes out of nowhere, smoking a grit, so he’s working the thing! Then, just when you least expect it, “Puig your friennnnnnnd!”

Yes!

This one pours a dark brown-ish color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like candied nuts, brandy, bourbon, boozy caramel, molasses, and cherry.

This is incredibly sweet, and it does detract a touch. In small amounts, though- this is a decadent treat. The brandy barrel is definitely dominant, with only a touch of bourbon coming through. There's lots of dark fruit, even a bit of maraschino cherry. There's the rich maltiness you want from a barleywine, too- caramel and molasses and toffee all over this guy. It's only a tiny bit boozy- not as strongly as the ABV would suggest, though. Certainly not.

This is medium bodied and very creamy, with a decent level of drinkability for the style and ABV. It's a treat to drink.

If you can get over the sweetness, this is definitely great. It never gets completely cloying despite it all.

A ton of raisins! There's also plenty of barrel, but not much of that caramel and butterscotch that I'm accustomed to in barleywine.

This is a strong effort, but not a great representative of the style. Needs a it more thickness... and more caramel, please!

Received from @2beerdogs in NBS BIF 10 – Thanks Derek! I’m salivating like I’m rabid while I wait for this to come up to temperature. Reviewed 11/10/19.
Undated bottle other than “2018” on banner. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 59 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.5.
First pour – Brown, clear.
Body – Pitch black, looks like a glass of tar or my soul. When held to the light, none escapes its event horizon.
Head – None. A few bubbles appear while pouring, but they collapse by the end of the pour, my usual aggressive down the center M.O.
Lacing – Seriously? At 13.7% ABV and with no head?
Aroma – 4.5 – Smells sweet and viscous, like I’m inhaling dates
Flavor – 4.75 – Begins sweet with “dark fruits” followed by a hint of brown sugar, maple, and the brandy barrel. At 57 degrees a bit of cinnamon appeared. No alcohol (13.7 % ABV) flavor or aroma, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide. A comforting gastric glow occurs and slooowly reaches the level of heat.
Palate – 4.5 – Full, almost syrupy, incredibly soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4.75 I never tasted or smelled the bourbon barrel, but the brandy more than made up for it. This is possibly the best barley wine of either style I’ve consumed.

Tasted from bottle. Pours a ruby brown. Sticky sweet thick mouthfeel. Lots of caramel, molasses, raisins. Taste similar to aroma along with dates, maple, brown sugar. Delicious and hangs with the best English barleywines.

Dark brown poor, lots of legs on the sides of the glass. Aroma of dark brown sugar, some dark fruit, brandy, some brandy, and little bit of mineral aroma. Taste is roasted caramel with brandy, oak, bourbon, and lingering brandy and some toasted brown sugar. Thick and viscous body, boozy, but not overpowering.

Fantastic beer here.

Thanks to the incomparable rawfish for giving – yes, giving – me this 500ML bottle. There are still good beer people out there, despite what you might see in rare release lines. And get off my damn lawn!

What flows is one of the darkest barleywines I’ve laid orbs too, dark brown, the red highlights showing only when held up against a full solar eclipse. The nose is all boozy, sweet caramel. I like.

Sight & Mind is a belly-warming home-wrecker. More alcohol than a M*A*S*H still, sluicing its way down. Strong brandy up front that drowns out whatever bourbon notes might have existed, dominating, leering, & flexing. Toffee, caramel, limpid brown eyes, sticky gingerbread, brown sugar, grade C maple syrup. All the good things. Viscous. Thick. As stirring as the national anthem before a chess tournament. This should come in much bigger bottles. Or tubs. A tub of it would be good.

How much of this could one buy before one’s wife kicked one out? This is one of those rare beers that makes me want to go check the credit limit on my Visa. Decadent, delicious, borderline perfect, one of the best barleywines in the world. Ever.

Pours a deep amber color with basically no head. The smell is boozy with some rich dark fruit on the nose. The taste has a lot of caramel and toffee. The feel is smooth, rich and dry in the finish. Overall it’s very good.
