Notes: Collaboration with Moksa Brewing Co

The first Stasis Project of 2019 is one of our most ambitious projects yet!

However Improbable is a small-batch collaboration with our friends at Moksa Brewing Company. This 12.8% stout was brewed back in the Autumn of 2017 where, after fermentation, the whole brew was recirculated on coconut pieces before it was racked into freshly spent Darkstar November barrels.

We left things to round out for a few months before racking the aged liquid out of the DSN barrels and then re-racking into fresh, first-use bourbon barrels with a full pound of fruity, floral Tahitian vanilla beans in each barrel.

Late last week we pulled the beer out of its second barrel slumber, then started recirculating the brew through a hopback chock-full of fresh coconut. Four days later, we dumped the fresh coconut swapped in a full load of toasted coconut, know, for science. We ran the beer through for another four days and now hold in our hands the culmination of a series of double-barreling and triple-adjuncting experiments gone magnificently right.

2019 release. I received it from @2beerdogs. Poured into a stemless stout glass. It pours an inky black with a modest, frothy, medium-mocha head that fizzled away quickly leaving a thin film of lacing. Its aromatic nose features dark chocolate, freshly-brewed coffee, vanilla, coconut, and soft but distinct bourbon. Wow, this is delicious! It drinks like a candy bar with lots of sweet milk chocolate, vanilla, and shaved coconut. The latter is not as pronounced as some of the earlier reviews - perhaps because it's two years in the bottle. There are also delightful notes of black cherry in the background. The bourbon influence is very delicate; it compliments the other flavors perfectly without being the least bit distracting. The overall taste is complex but delicate. The mouth feel is nearly perfect; it's thick and creamy - almost chewy - with lite carbonation, and the 12.8% ABV is warming but not overpowering or distracting. Overall, However Improbable is exquisite. The flavor and mouth feel are as good as any Imperial Stout I've had. I suspect that the smell was bolder when first released but that's quibbling. This is a fabulous Imperial Stout.

First time with this despite being a year late! Poured from just under fridge temp. Pours jet black with minimal head. The nose is delectable. Coconut, bourbon, tons of chocolate, vanilla, lactose, maybe a touch of cherry. The coconut is heavy on this one, so definitely go for it if this is your thing. It's mine. The taste beats the crap out of the nose. Insanely complex and flavorful! Wow....just wow. Chocolate, tons of bourbon, tons of coconut, vanilla, toffee, milk, lots of dark fruits - raisins, cherries, and blackberries. Figs and a bit of nuttiness. I am almost getting a touch of pineapple on the aftertaste, which is really nice. Also getting some burnt wood and licorice on the long aftertaste. The mouthfeel is insanely thick and creamy. Overall, this is just a splendid stout with lots of bourbon and coconut.

Simply outstanding! Smelled the coconut when bottle was opened across the table. Nose is full on rich toasted & fresh coconut, hint of vanilla & barrel notes. Taste like a liquid coconut candy bar. Great mouthfeel. Another great BL BA stout.

hype-influenced? maybe. chocolate first, followed by coconut. this is VERY good! this is excellent. this is amazing.... this is a Mounds bar, as i have heard others say about another brew... first batch Space Trace had the chunks of coconut which were the secret to its amazing superiority and nothing after came close. THIS is amazing and different, but as successfully created... Dear Bottle Logic, please brew this one again and do NOT try to improve on it.... before submitting this review i changed my scores to give 5s across the board

Nothin short of excellent, creamy coconuts that seem to come in waves. Vanilla dominates the mouthfeel, goes down way too easy. Don't sleep on this, might be one of the very best beers ever produced from Bottle Logic. Pastry done right, maybe lacking some barrel presence with the amount of sweet coconut and vanilla but it's hardly a complaint right now.

On tap at BL. I'm hearing the tap is producing a lot more coconut so I cant compare with the bottles. Overall one of the best BL beers I've ever had. Really I haven't had a BA stout this good since FOb3. PCC, dark star, nothing comes close. Slight astringency but a great mouthfeel. Really little to complain about this is everything I'd want in a BA coconut stout.

Very darknappearance with light brown head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a very pleasant caramel coconut blend. Taste is a very smooth and pleasant slightly sweet blend of coconut and caramel.
