Notes: Chocolate Covered Banana-inspired Imperial Stout that was fermented with Arizona Cactus Honey before aging for nearly two years in a combination of bourbon barrels and ex-bourbon barrels that most recently held some of Superstition Meadery's world-class mead.

Post-barrel, this liquid was blended with an intensely potent small-batch beer built on our pilot system with mountains of real bananas for an utterly radiant fruit flavor. To complete the concept, we sent the full volume through a filter bed full of sweet, earthy cacao nibs for a decadent, chocolate-covered finish.

L: Pours a deep cola brown and settles pitch motor-oil black. The viscosity is evident on the pour, amounting to about half a finger of a khaki-colored cap that settled rapidly. Lacing is practically minimal.
S: Even cold you can smell the banana and honey. The honey sweetness dominates with smells of chocolate trailing close behind. It smells rather inviting and promising.
T: Right out of the gate, the flavor is superb even with the chill. The honey, chocolate and banana are all present. As it warms, it seems that the honey comes out even more but the banana follows in a similar fashion. I would say that honey stands out the most, but the banana is actively trying to snag the spot light. Both present from start to finish, with the honey presence lingering slightly longer in the after taste. Chocolate flavor is like the raw cocoa used in baked goods, providing a nice sweet yet bitter foundation for the other adjuncts to build upon. Bourbon is minimally detected at finish, seemingly masked by the mead presence.
F: Thick, full, and viscous. Heavy in weight, medium in body. Carbonation is appropriately done being at the moderate sweet-spot. Booze is hidden nearly completely, and the feel is not sacrificed. World-class mouthfeel for a beer of this stature.
O: I will be honest, I went into this with high expectation. I am not let down. The honey is strong as expected from the mead barrels, but the banana is presented in a nice natural and abundant fashion. The more it warms, the more the banana shines through and meshes with the mead honey. Barrel presence is at a minimum but still detectible, affirming this is a 13+ percent barrel-aged beverage. To say this is a treat is an understatement. My wife, being a non-stout drinker, gave it a sip and said she liked it. Wouldn't expect less from the likes of Bottle Logic and Superstition meadery. I am very glad to try and I would drink again/recommend. Cheers!

Salty-sweet, slightly bourbon-boozy, choco-banana aromatics on this one! Taste follows with a deep and viscous honey-like vibe...it is salty-sweet, chocolate banana upfront then the bourbon booziness takes over and adds some heat on the swallow. This clocks in around 13.5% ABV! The booziness doesn't really start to dominate until it warms up a bit. This is great!

500 mL bottle poured into a teku glass.

Near black with a thin brown head.

Nose: Bourbon up front which fades to chocolate covered banana. Rich and balanced.

Taste: Bourbon barrel dominates up front followed by rich dark chocolate. The mead comes in strong on the finish. Banana is a bit more subtle here compared to the nose. Finish is fairly sweet especially with the mead but not cloying.

Feel: Full-bodied, fairly high carbonation relatively speaking.
