Vanilla-finished bourbon barrel-aged stout, sprinkled with a nostalgic blend of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and allspice on a bittersweet molasses base.

On tap at Provisions in Orange, CA.
Damn thing almost glowed a golden black (if that is possible) but maybe it’s just the hipster lighting. Smell is a bit odd. It’s super spicy with holiday essence like Santa is when he’s trying to slay Mrs. Claus - but then it’s also a bit weird. Like, something artificial or chemical that I cannot detect. But it’s slight. Taste is the same. Christmas in my mouth like the cookies my grandmama used to bake for me. Not bad. Feel isn’t the thickest, but it’s still pretty solid like a Jiffy Lube oil change.
Raul ain’t trippin’ here. It’s just aite.

Gingerbread to the nose. Gingerbread taste. Little spicy.

Pitch black with a thick brown collar. Aromas is heavenly: swirling gingerbread, warm bourbon, full molasses. Taste is heavily spiced, creating an perfumey atmosphere over the rest of the bourbon aged stout with notes of molasses and to a lesser degree dark chocolate, wood and leather. Gets more integrated as it warms. Feel is spiced, warm with booze, sneaky creamy, and light for abv and style. Nothing compares to hadywood's gbs, but this was pretty good!

A mess of a disappointment

500 mL bottle poured into a teku glass.
Black with a thick mocha brown head. Good head retention for the abv.
Nose: Very strong presence from the spices, vanilla, and bourbon barrel. Cinnamon and ginger dominate the spice profile giving it a definite gingerbread feel. Some alcohol is noticeable.
Taste: Fundamental Observation meets gingerbread cookies, albeit with a bit more booziness. Extremely well rounded between the vanilla, bourbon, and spices. Some alcohol heat on the finish along with lingering ginger and clove.
Feel: Full-bodied, smooth, low carbonation.

A moderately dense mocha foam over a black body settles to a short but persistent blanket curled at the edges.
This smells like Red Hots and molasses, but taste is pretty spot on gingerbread cookies dipped in bourbon.
I'm not a huge molasses or gingerbread fan, but this is pretty tasty in spite of myself. It's kind of astonishing how well this works, especially when compared to my past experiences with gingerbread inspired beers, most of which I've absolutely hated. There's even that toasted, almost charred flavor you often get from the cookies, which is emulating a dusty crunch in my mind. However the body has a smooth, round heft to it, with a soft, mild carbonation that comes to a semi-dry finish that has a sharp but quickly dissipating bite in the swallow.
Objectively speaking, this is a truly delicious brew while nailing the inspiration. And it's immensely drinkable, especially for it's ABV.
