Notes: We're approaching bold body and vicious viscosity from all angles in this 14.61% ABV Imperial Stout. Mass Action is a select blend made up of last year's favorite double mash barrels and 24-month aged barrels finished through 800lbs of fresh coconut pieces, 650lbs of toasted coconut, a veritable island of bananas, and 300lbs of Jet-Puffed's finest marshmallows.

Cold first sips are pure coconut. Let the liquid warm a bit and the dreamy sweetness of marshmallow bounces onto the palate, making way for a wave of rich, ripe banana. Caramel tones of toasted coconut and barrel balance the blend with a complex, lingering finish.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very thick black with a thin layer of very dark head. Looks super viscous! The nose is incredible. Banana mixed with thick chocolate, bourbon, coconut cream, butter, vanilla, and marshmallows. For having all of these notes, they are incredibly well integrated.

The taste follows the nose, but the coconut dominates the banana here. Wonderful amount of coconut. The banana is great. Chocolate, cinnamon, graham crackers, marshmallow, vanilla, milk, and a nice cake flavor.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. As far as pastry stouts go, this is one of the best.

Appearance - The beer poured a deep black color with a tan head.

Smell - The banana nose on this is incredible. There was a sweet pastry nose that accompanied the banana.

Taste - Chocolate fudge was paired with banana. The banana was strong, but it was not overdone like summer stouts. The coconut and marshmallow were light, being more accessible toward the back. Banana notes lingered in the finish were a slight sourness.

Mouthfeel - The body was thick, almost fluffy. There was little carbonation.

Overall - This might be the best banana beer that I have ever had.

8 ball black with a short fuzzy tan head settling to a fine ridge.

OMG that tastes like nilla puddn, complete with wafers and of course nanners. After that initial mind fuck, it's Swiss Miss marshmallow. What a ridiculous treat.

How the stouty chocolate somehow doesn't interfere with the nanna puddn is not for me to say, but I'm not missing whatever coconut is added. It may not be distinct, but it's adding a creamy element. The same goes for the barrel--if it adds anything, it's a slight heat, while maybe enhancing the nilla-ness, but without great distinction. However, long after it warms, coconut syrup does slowly emerge.

The body is moderately viscous, with a finely crisp fizz coming to a semi-dry yet lightly sticky finish.

2021 Release

Appearance: Very dark brown bordering on black with a modest sized dark beige head, that faded fairly quickly to a nice ring. Nice looking Imperial Stout.

Smell: Moderate Bourbon aromas and brown sugar aromas. I also get some mild vanilla aromas as well, and mild roasted malts/coffee aromas. The beer has a good nose.

Taste: The palate features moderate bourbon notes, moderate vanilla notes (the marshmallows?) modest roasted malt notes, and maybe the faintest hint of coconuts. The taste profile is nicely balanced and no one element stands out distinctly from the others. The beer starts off fairly sweet but dries up a bit in the finish. The beer has a restrained alcohol presence for the listed 14.61% ABV.

Mouth-feel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation that results in a good mouthfeel for this beer.

Overall: A good Bottle Logic stout. The taste profile nicely balances all the adjuncts with no particular flavor element standing out from the rest.

Sweet milk chocolate, marshmallow-coconut, hint of banana, and vanilla-bourbon barrel nose on this one! Taste follows with a balanced, milk chocolate roasty, hint of barrel, and marshmallow finish...unfortunately, the banana and coconut notes are lighter than I was hoping for. This is nice and heavy on the palate...this is really good!

Served at 40° F. Pours deep black and thick. Agressive pour yields almost no head that dissipates quickly. Smell is strong marshmallow and banana with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Taste, when cold, opens up with tons of marshmallow and chocolate. As the beer warms, more of the barrel, coconut, and banana begin to shine. This beer is not hot at all. Full body and coats the tongue. Thickness nearing perfection according to my preference (common for BL Stasis beers).

This is an excellent beer. It has been a while since I have been truly wowed by a new BL beer, so this was a great experience. Perhaps more coconut profile would edge this beer closer towards perfection. Great job BL!

no coconut, or not as i was expecting/hoping for, and the banana just isnt as 'Equivalent Dose-y' as i was hoping for... in fact, it's a tad 'chemical-ly', no? it's not bad, and the high abv is relatively easy to down. and thank you, phineas j whoopee, for adding this....
