A beer lover pays homage to his wife by taking one of her favourite things – chocolate – and marrying it to one of his own. And while the bottle’s label denotes cherished pets and personal mementos, his real gift to her is inside: three chocolate additions – chocolate malt, cocoa powder in the mash, and cocoa nibs in the fermentor – make this roasty, easy-drinking porter über chocolatey. It’s a declaration not only to her, but to chocolate aficionados and porter drinkers alike: prospective lovers, don’t write poetry – bottle up your love!

A:
It pours clear but black with a couple fingers of fairly tenacious tan head. Ok retention; some lacing. (4)
S:
Chocolate, sweetly smoky, cherry, woody. (3.75)
T:
Coffee, faint chocolate, thin roasty astringency, baker's chocolate comes through strong as it warms up. (3.75)
M:
Thin and fizzy without much substance to the feel, high carbonation gives a fluffy feel. (3.75)
O:
A tasty little porter that does a fairly good job of showcasing chocolate, shiv opens up a lot as it warms. It pours pretty nice-looking. The aroma is milk chocolate first off with some subtle fruity/roast notes. The flavor is intially mainly medium roast flavors but really becomes bitter-chocolate-centric as the glass approaches room temp. It is drinkable with decent heft for its size. I enjoyed this one and feel like on nitro or with a little more meat on its bones and with the edges softened it would be even better. (3.75)

Started off interesting enough, with a fruity chocolate, floral aroma and a cocoa coloured head with average retention. Then things went downhill. Lacks body, has a watery mouthfeel that is amplified by the muted flavour. Only mild notes of roasted malt, chocolate, hazelnuts. Some bitterness in the finish, it is quite dry.
In a word, boring. Doesn't taste bad, it just doesn't have taste at all.

A- This one pours a very nice chocolate brown color with hints of red, copper and yes....there is in fact a purple hued tinge around the foam ring at the top of the liquid. The head, as mentioned, is more of a ring after some quaint settling of the one finger thick layer and this is purple-ish, with caramel and eggshell coloration. The lacing is modest at best, with small clumps of foam quickly sliding back into the beer.
S- Good quantities of chocolate, heavy toasted/mildly burnt black malts, slight coffee/creamy mocha, ever so slight banana fruit, and a yeasty bread like quality....all of this before a small tinge of hopped bitterness wafts into my nostrils....nothing overpowering however!
T- Awesome cocoa powder bitterness is balanced out by both dark chocolate naturalness and milk chocolate sweetness. There are accompanying flavors of mocha, cream, yeast, hints of Earthy tones like licorice and toffee like richness. The malts are a blend of both burnt and mild roast caramel....very nice! The finish is a cleansing hop profile that hits the back of the throat and has me begging for more!
M/O- Smooth overall in terms of carbonation, and this has a solid medium body. It would pair well with any sort of rich dessert or chocolate based dish. I quite enjoy the coffee/cocoa blend and overall I feel that this is well balanced and easy drinking. I would recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a Porter that leans towards the sweeter end of the spectrum!

Bottle: Poured a clear black color porter with a medium light brown foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of light chocolate notes with some dry coffee notes and light bitterness. Taste is a mix of dry coffee notes with light bitter black chocolate notes with some hints of residual sugar notes. Body is light with OK carbonation. Lacking cohesion with body too thin to really support the flavour profile.

Appearance: Chocolately cola black-brown, Good finger of ecru head - mostly loose and somewhat rocky with little to no lace.
Aromatics: Chocolate dipped dark prunus fruits, hints of sour grape. The grape and plum scents really smell like they are lightly wrapped in semi-sweet chocolate - the differing aromas dancing together but never really blending into a muddled mess of scents. I like when the notes are distinct and un-muddled, and support each other well as they are here - very nicely balanced.
Taste: Good mild to medium roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavour and bitter. Fairly straightforward. No gimmicks - just a nice clean, lightly bitter, and medium roasted flavour.
Feel: The water quality real provides a feel of a clean and refreshing brew and helps thin out the body a bit. So though I’d say it is a medium weight it has qualities that help it in the low middle-weight, not something I come across in a porter too often. Bit of a dry cardboard feel and alcohol ghosting on the palate in the finish that is otherwise clean and dry.
Overall: A nice quaint porter. Good chocolate presence without being blatantly obvious to the nose or palate. A decent chocolate porter
Pairing : This is a decent enough after dinner beer, especially for Autumn nights… You could go with an equally decadent chocolate themed dessert or try something sweet, fruity, and creamy like a plain cheesecake topped with caramelized brandied apricots.

16oz glass at Beer Revolution, during their tap takeover (for them, it's really more like a fifth of their lines) for Bomber Brewing. Chocolate porter on VD - seems appropriate!
This beer appears a clear, very dark red cola highlighted brown colour, with one hefty finger of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly creamy ecru head, which leaves some decent webbed tree branch lace around the glass as things gently subside.
It smells of bittersweet cocoa powder, gritty and grainy caramel malt, faint cafe-au-lait, subtle black licorice, soft dark orchard fruity notes, and tame earthy and leafy noble hops. The taste is stale Zellers-style chocolate wafers, grainy and lightly roasted caramel malt, slightly spoiled milk, watery cold coffee, muddled citrus zest, and plain weedy and earthy hop bitters.
The bubbles are adequate in their workaday frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and not particularly smooth, as an uncertain pithy acridity takes hold. It finishes trending dry, the bottom falling out of the sweetness, and the cocoa character not exactly swooping in to save the day.
Yeah, kind of a wan example of this typically worthwhile adjunct style - I wish that I could say that the chocolate is a bit overwrought in this offering, but alas, I cannot. Looks like Imma gonna have to go and find my sugar fix elsewhere this particular Valentine's Day.
