From a 650 ml. bottle dated 19 Dec 13. Sampled relatively fresh on February 22, 2014.

This gets a solid grade for the way it looks based on the style it represents. Lovely chestnut and mahogany brown with a significant soapy tan head and a flickering of ruby red up to the light.

I pick up the aroma instantly before putting my nose to the glass. It is a cavalcade of toasted malts, nuttiness, and brown sugar but little aroma as far as hops go. Still, traditional browns tend not to be hopped up.

The body is medium and fairly carbonated.

Like the aroma there is a nice sweet malty character at first in the taste but then a mild bitterness sneaks in on the backside but never overtakes anything. It is nicely balanced and a good representation of a style that some people love and some people don't love. I happen to be a fan of Browns and I would have this again in a heartbeat.

Bottle from Bert's
Pours a solid dark brown with a decent sized creamy khaki colored head that recedes slowly leaving some spotty lace. Smells of caramel, brown sugar, and milk chocolate mostly, with a hint of grassy earthy hops to counter. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Dark sugary sweet maltiness with plenty of milk chocolate flavor. Light grassy astringency mixed in with some earthy hop is noticeable but not detrimental. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Pretty nice brown ale, I look forward to trying some more from this brewery.
