Review from notes 6/21/15

A: Clear, medium orange-gold, with some nice honey highlights - low level of carbonation - white head fades quickly, leaves not much more than a few streaks of lacing

S: Pale malts and some sweet maple aroma - fairly straightforward, not tons of depth - pale malts, caramel, light biscuits, crackers - straight-up maple aroma - not really maple syrup, more like maple sap - minimal hops, above-average sweetness

T: Follows the aroma, pretty much - pale malts, pale grains - light bread, light biscuits - maple flavor, but not a ton of it - kind of like a touch of raw maple syrup - light, sugary sweetness

M: Medium body, low carbonation, finishes with some sticky sweetness

O: Nearly suitable for breakfast

The name "Maple Pale Ale" sets some expectations, and they are mostly met. The maple is very subtle, and ultimately the malts could be cleaner. With some more refinement, this would be pretty good.

Bottle from Bert's
Pours a hazy dark straw color with a decent sized white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of lemon and orange zest with bits of sweet honey maltiness and some yeasty bready aromas phenols. Sweet honey sugary maltiness up front with bits of citrus fruit and some yeasty bready flavors. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Pretty good wit or Belgian pale ale, but sadly no maple or American pale ale was found in this bottle. This is either a labeling mishap or an infection in the early stages. I will re rate this after I get the scoop.
