Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip

L: Semi-opaque mahogany pour. Thinner than expected off-white head. Only modest lacing.

S: Caramel and dark sugars... raisin bread and spice.

T/F: Toasted candy sugars and some dark fruits... off-sweet to start but not cloying. A little bit of spice. Slightly medicinal and yeasty. Well carbonated... zesty in mouthfeel. Leaves a bit of stickiness on the tongue.

O: A fair stab at the style and easily drinkable, but doesn't approach the complexity of a real Belgian Dubbel. I'd have it again but can't say that I would seek it out.

$ 10.55 (Including tax)/ six pack ($ 0.146/oz) at Denny’s Beer Barrel
Bottle dated 12/28/16 at 40 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – weak dark fruit and cinnamon (?)
Head small (< one cm, aggressive pour), light tan, fizzy, gone in seconds leaving an irregular one to two mm ring and some scummy-looking bubbles
Lacing – none
Body – red-amber, clear
Flavor – sweet and cloying, some dark fruit, again with a hint of cinnamon; no malt, no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate mediium, watery, fizzy

A below average attempt at a dubbel but at that price point not unexpected. After Flying Fish’s excellent Exit 18 Baltic Porter it was still somewhat of a disappointment. The best thing about this beer is the color and clarity of the body!

12 oz bottle. Dark brown color. Nice sweet plum and raisins flavors in this Belgian style Abbey ale. If you like Belgian ales, definitely worth trying.

Color & clarity are as expected.
I really like the tast of this beer it has the malty spicy notes expected from the style but with a lightness that makes it easier to drink.
Perhaps more carbonated than expected, but still with good body.
Overall, a satisfying dubbel that begs you to have another.

Pours a solid brown color typical of the dubbel style. Unlike the style, the head is not large and soon disapates completely.
In the aroma; hint of faint chocolate, dark fruit, toasted malt and caramel.
Mostly sweet, bubblegum like and with a more subdued spiciest that I'm a costumed to from dubbels. I would have liked it better if the latter was present for balance.
Cola like mouthfeel. A bit light for a dubbel.
Easy to drink and tasty enough, however, not the best example of the style.

Hoping for a bargain I bought 6 but I'm done at 1 (this is going towards my next party).
Heavy on the malt!

Appearance: Pours a hazed muddy chemistry experiment color with a slack head that leaves a bit of lacing behind. Not a fun color.

Smell: Best part. Sweet perfumy aroma; floral, abundant, grassy. Slightly medicinal.

Taste: A lot going on, and definitely let it warm. Bready, with a peppery Belgian yeast mid play; then after the swallow, it's perfume and flowers. (too floral, malty, sweet, and flattish for me)

Mouthfeel: Thin, flattish body with low carbonation.

O: OK. Not terrible, probably good for a blend. But nothing like say a Bronx Belgian Pale Ale for same price.

Smooth and creamy. A good double, but not very Belgian in taste

Look: It pours dark amber with ruby hues. It has a light brown head.

Smell: It has a malty sweet aroma that is rich and complimented by dried cherries and apple aromas.

Taste: It is malt forward rich with raisins, dried fruit, bits of cherries; that finishes sweet.

Feel: It has a light-heavy feel to it with low alcohol warmth.

Overall the balance it slightly towards the malt with a full range of dark fruit flavors with the raisins being pronounced.

Bottle purchased June 2016, says best by 8-10-16 (hard to read).

Pours easily without much head or head retention. Color is very dark brown but clear.

Smells of caramel and malt. Mild and not boozy.

Taste is very mellow with just a slight sweetness. The caramel really comes out. Not much in the way of flavor complexity. I was hoping for some dark fruit but none is detectable.

Very smooth across the back of the tongue. Very easy to drink for such a dark beer. Pleasantly refreshing for the style.

Overall I think this is a good beer but not a great example of the style. It could definitely use some raisin or other dark fruit character to bring it up in complexity. I'd drink it again and again but probably wouldn't go out of my way to get one.

12oz bottle received from dberger624 in a great trade... Thanks Dan! Pours standard clear walnut brown.. short lived light khaki head.. raisin and light clove.. hints of cola on the finish.. dark dry toast... A little metallic on the finish.
