Richly complex stout features roasted malts, toffee, dark chocolate, caramel, espresso and cocoa. We then aged the beer for two months in Dad’s Hat Rye Whiskey barrels, which infuses rye, oak and vanilla into this one-of-a-kind beer.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip. Pours pitch black with a nice light brown head. Smells of dark roasted grain with coffee and bourbon. Tastes of chocolate and coffee with bourbon notes. Beer is full bodied, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

5/12/18...pitch black, heavy tan foam lifts over an inch high. Coffee and whisky nose. Vanillas infuse as well. Smooth taste, heavy oaked whiskey flavor soaks through. Boozy. Lighter mouthfeel, some roasting. Pretty damn tasty.

This is probably the best beer in Flying Fish’s Exit series, in my humble opinion. Although I’ve come to love beers aged in bourbon barrels, allowing this beer to sit in Rye Whiskey bottles helps to set it apart from its barrel-aged brethren. Flying Fish’s description says this is a “one of a kind” beer and I’d be hard-pressed to dispute the claim. Supposedly, only 750 bottles were put into distribution so if you’re in the NJ/PA area, grab this because it will not be around long.

Dark hued body; then yet creamy and sticky head. Rich mocha and vanilla smell; some coffee; cocoa nibs. Deep, rich milk and bitter chocolate flavors; some whiskey. Medium-heavy body; chewy; some boozy heat; relatively dry finish.

A solid barrel-aged stout. Rich and luscious overall. Good balance and complexity. Satisfying.

A smooth first-sip-to-last pleasure. Aging smooths the abv conveying the rye whisky notes without a harsh bite. Sweet, but not cloying. Perfect for a chill Siberian night.

750ml bottle served in a tulip. Don't see a date, but it's probably a one-off.

Pours black with a surprisingly healthy head and moderate carbonation. Smell is stout and whiskey -- roasty malts, burnt wood, vanilla, coffee, chocolate.

Taste is a little hot. Booze is quite noticeable. Vanilla and wood is strong. Roast is clear.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin (too thin for a Russian Imperial Stout). Overall, it's tasty, but too boozy, too thin, and too straight whiskey to be great.

Poured from 750mL bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: nearly-black hue with a finger of compact tan froth atop. Quite attractive.

Smell: sweetly malty, with notes of vanilla, coffee and a little bit of chocolate. There's also a rather prominent yeastiness reminiscent of a Baltic porter. I like it.

Taste: quite sweet with lots of vanilla character along with a little bit of cherry and chocolate. The rye barrel is notable, if not super strong, which is good. I like rye, and the sweetness and character come through here as a nice accent. A tasty beer.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good level of carbonation and a very good creaminess.

Overall: this is a good beer, although the yeastiness of the flavor seems a little messy to me. The rye is good, though; I would recommend it.

Appearance: dark brown almost black in color with a 1/2" head that falls to a thick surface foam that lasts.

Smell: chocolate and a hint of whiskey comes through to the nose.

Taste: roasted malts, bread, dark chocolate, raisins, some coffee, and some whiskey tones arrive late. Bitterness is moderate and alcohol is warming.

Mouthfeel: heavy in body. Smooth from start to finish with a warming aftertaste.

Overall: this is a good beer accentuated by storing this in rye whiskey barrels. Sweet but not overly so. Nicely balanced.
