Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Although usually identified with landfills and pipelines, the Hackensack Meadowlands is an amazingly diverse ecosystem providing vital animal and plant habitat. In a nod to a once common food plant here, we’ve brewed this beer with wild rice. We also added organic brown and white rice, as well as pils and pale malts.

Rice helps the beer ferment dry to better showcase the five different hops we added. Lots and lots of them. We then dry-hopped this Double IPA with even more–generous additions of Chinook and Citra hops to create a nose that hints at tangerine, mango, papaya and pine. This beer pairs extremely well with spicy foods and all kinds of seafood. And of course, it’s quite enjoyable all by itself.

not your typical DIPA because of the use of wild rice. the rice really gives this a good clean dry finish without compromising the flavors. It still carries a nice hop aroma and bite with good malt balance.

A - 4 - This is a golden amber colored beer that's crystal clear with a thin film of white bubbles on top that leaves a nace lacing on the glass.

S - 4.25 - Very citrusy/piney hops. Grapefruit, orange zest, lemon lime, mango.

T - 4.25 - Very citrusy/piney hops. Grapefruit, orange zest, lemon lime, mango. The rice taste is present too, in the background you get a nice brown rice flavor, almost like a hint of a good burrito. It's not your typical adjunct beer and is a really good ipa.

M - 4.25 - light - medium mouthfeel. Alc covered. Aftertaste is a nice citrusy hop taste. It's very hoppy but not that bitter.

O - 4.25 - Great beer, tastes amazing. It's unique - with a good rice flavor to it in the background. IT's nothing like an adjuct beer.

Appearance: Poured into a DFH snifter. Pours a light gold with a finger and half head of fine foam. Nice head retention.

Aroma: Hops dominate with rich tropical fruits followed up by floral and herbal notes.

Taste: Fruity and floral hop notes paired with a light and relatively dry malt presence. Interesting.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, light carbonation.

Overall: Interesting, enjoyable, and drinkable DIPA.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours gold color, lighter side, not quite see through. What little foam there is to start with settles out. Sweet and bitter nose. Quite fruity too. Very balanced bitter flavor. Loads of fruit as a beginner. Very orange-y. Very good.

Exit 16 deposits a hazy straw gold, SRM 2-4 when put to the light, into a Dogfish Head Fisheye pint glass. The fluffy one-inch white head leaves a thick webbing of lace.

Peppery hops are punctuated with celery and apricot. As expected, this beer is all about showcasing the hops. Notes of lemongrass come out as well. The aroma does have an oddly welcome dustiness to it.

Pineapple and grapefruit are prominent as expected with celery playing a secondary role. While fairly simple, these flavors are well done and bitterness is under control long into the finish.

Alcohol is present, though less than 8.2% would suggest. A combination of dryness and strong hops tends to numb the gums while the medium to light bodied beer pushes fine carbonation.

IIPA’s can hardly be called easy to drink, yet this one approaches that description, perhaps due to the rice. Exit 16 will easily match whatever summer has to offer.
