Their Belgian Style Dubbel aged in bourbon barrels. Poured into a small chalice. The beer was served cold, and I'll chart it's changes as it warmed.
A dark maroon color. No visible head.
The initial aroma is of bourbon. As the beer warmed, sweet toffee emerged. As the beer neared room temp, the bourbon / toffee subsided, and were replaced with fruit, primarily cherries.
The initial taste is bourbon, which then fades and is replaced by the dubbel in the aftertaste. While tastes are not mixed, the transition is very smooth, and it's actually a nice combination. As the beer warms, the bourbon subsides, such that it's completely blended into the beer by the end. As the bourbon fades, the fruitiness emerges. There's a nice sweetness to it.
Bourbon and dubbel is an interesting combination, but it works and I like it. I was surprised with how much the taste changed as the beer warmed up. I'd love to see them make more of this.

Does not look barrel aged; looks like a plain dubbel. Smells of dried fruits and nondescript hops. Taste is of sour fruits and some malt. Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp but not thick. Can't really pick up on barrel notes, but this is very good nonetheless. Crisp and refreshing, things you typically don't hear about barrel aged beers. Different but extremely tasty.

Great beer at a low price. Goes down very well. ABV is 7.2, says right on the label, will definitely buy again! I have not found a beer made by Flying Fish that is not right up there with the best of beers. At only $8 a six pack, and a Dubbel Abby, how can you go wrong?

Light on the head and dark in color. It has a nice sparkly feel though it is lightly carbonated. Very light as far as dubbel's go. Reading their label I was expecting something a bit more robust, like a Dogfish Raison D'Etre. But mildness in this type of beer is to be appreciated as one can get overburdened by heaviness in the winter season. As ever, Flying Fish makes their own distinctiveness without hopping up or jazzing up on the alcohol.
