BBD 7/11/15. Pours a clear amber with a solid garnet cast. Outstanding head volume, world class lacing and retention.

Somewhat light nose of toasted malt and hops (pine and grapefruit).

Heavy light body with a smooth texture. Superb carbonation with a nice effervescent burst in the middle and a solid finely bubbled prickly finished.

Outstanding flavor profile. It is intense, fairly complex, and very well balanced. It's base is a solid biscuit with heavy caramel notes that are somewhat toasted. Over this is a mild bitterness which has hop flavor elements of pine, grapefruit and an herbal spicy character. The finish is a slow fade of hop flavor that becomes more spicy as it lingers.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark red color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy lace. The aroma starts with some nuts and malts. Then some citrus and piney hops contact the rest of the aromatics nicely. The flavor leans sweet through a blend of the previously mentioned aromas. Rugged malty aftertaste with the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonated fine, it moves pretty well across my tongue. Overall, decent amber ale that I could come back to.

From Flying Fish's website: Red Fish is a west coast hoppy red ale. Columbus, Chinook and Cascade hops give the beer a robust piney nose. Two-row, crystal and cara-red malts give the beer a malty background and a 7% abv.

Pours a lightly hazed burnt copper color, moderate cap of off-white froth, little lacing. Scent brings a moderate hop profile with parts piney and grassy, backbone is lightly sweet, faint caramel, hints of spicy rye. Taste leads with firm piney hoppyness with splashed of grass and citrus, follows with moderately sweet caramely malts, , light toasted husky grain notes, faint splash of spicy rye (surprised to see the website doesn't list it as an ingredient). Body is medium, finishes quite dry for the sweetness present in taste. This beer was a pleasure to drink as it was quite balanced between hoppy and malty. One of the better non-exit brews from Flying Fish.

Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ.

Pours a very cloudy and very dark ruby red color that's almost brown with dark burnt orange edges and one finger white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring.  Streaks of lacing left behind.

Slightly earthy aroma with floral hops and sweet malt notes.  Kind of bland and takes a while to open up.  Almost nothing detectable until it warns up significantly.  Subtle grassy pine along with some caramel malt, toffee and faint fruit.

Fortunately tastes better than the nose would have you believe.  Well balanced with dry, bitter hops that are countered by sweet malt notes.  Slightly creamy texture adds fullness to the palate.  Hints of resinous pine and faint citrus followed by caramel malt, toffee, hazelnut and dark fruit.

Poured 12oz bottle into glass. 7% abv.

Appearance- Pours a dark amber/red. 2 finger white head slow to dissipate. Good clarity.

Smell- Grapefruit, toasty malt

Taste- Sweet bready malt with caramel. Grapefruit and pine come around in heavy flavor until leaving a dry finish with a good bit of bitterness.

Mouthfeel- Medium heavy in body, ample carbonation.

Overall- A hop lovers red ale here. Plenty of hops beginning with the smell. Good use of malt/hops in the taste. Similar to an IPA in taste but definitely a red ale by looks.

Well I think my original review was from when Red Fish was sold as an ESB. So time for a re-review

12 oz bottle - dated best by 11/9/16 - did not know I was drinking this on the last day recommended. I bought it recently.

fairly clear, but not totally. dark amber colored, off white colored foamy head. good head retention. earthy hop aroma, a bit vegetal. similar with the taste. the flavor is a bit off, a bit stale. Guess I should have bought a fresher bottle.

Thanks to my Dad for getting me this beer!

A: Light brown as it pours, and a medium brown in the glass with large chunks of floating matter. Head is light tan.

S: Citrus and Piney hops come out right away, light juniper and grapefruit, with undertones of bread.

T: Caramel and a hint of coffee, followed by some light hop flavor. There is a little bit of bitterness that lingers past the first taste, but all in all I thought there would be a bunch more hop character.

M: Medium, with medium carbonation. A little linger on the aftertaste.

O: Decent, but not amazing. With the amount of times hoppy is mentioned on the label, I was expecting more.

iPhone notes: served on tap at Applebees in Piscataway NJ. Standard shaker pint glass.

Pours reddish amber with lots of foam and prominent lacing. Light caramel nose. Toffee too, but hard to pick up. Taste is a very bready malt with loads of flavor. Chewy. Smooth mouthfeel and just a touch of biter. Balanced works completely. Real good. 425 375 425 4 425
