One of the least red red ales I've ever had; really more of a murky brown, with not much of a head.

Smells nice, though: like an old school imperial pale. Very sharp, American hops and tea-like malt. No syrupiness in the malt, which is good, but the beer's malt fruitiness is unusually bright for a beer as heavily hopped as this. I like it quite a bit after a while, but at first it was a little strange.

Tastes like an old school, strong-ish IPA up front, tea in the middle, and then fruit and hay in the back. It's aged a bit, but the label says it doesn't expire for a couple of weeks. The age, I feel, is a benefit, although some may be turned off by the nontraditional, thick fruitiness of the malt.

The flavor is crisp and body is lively and so this is very drinkable for a beer of its strength. I'm not 100% sure what they were going for, stylistically, but this is nonetheless an enjoyable beer.

This is a snappy IRA where the bright hops really lighten the malt and bring out the brightness of the caramel and toffee without coming off as some heavy, muddy mess. Well integrated and smooth, it's one of the better IRAs I've had (my fav being the Stone Pataskala Red X IPA). Well not quite as "west coast style" in the hops, it's still aggressive, but with an herbal tinge.

Dark amber color and crystal clear. Lasting, foamy head. Great ring lace.

My first impression of the smell is of floral hop. The second impression reminds me of freshly cut weeds but in a positive way. The malt is way in the background.

The hop is stronger and more bittering in the taste. The malt base is also far more present with a strong, dark toast flavor. Fuller body with a decent level of carbonation. Short aftertaste but well balanced.

Pours a two-fingered white head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Crystal clear amber color - no red. Moderate pine hop nose. Medium carbonation and medium bodied and flavor is pine hops, hints of sweetness with malt mostly hidden, slight bitter aftertaste. Gift - 12oz bottle.

Back to the bottle, at least briefly, before another extended bout with my CANlection of backlogged beers.

From the bottle: "This West Coast[-]style hoppy red features the finest and brashest Northwest hops - Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Columbus. Hop aromas of pine and grapefruit enhance and stand up to the multi-layered malt background."; "Red Fish is [a] West Coast-style hoppy red ale. Brash, bold, bright and, incase we didn't mention [it], hoppy."

I Pop!ped the cap and began an aggro pour that I maintained until it became too much to handle & I had to back off. I ended up with two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, tawny head with decent retention that slowly fell to wisps, leaving great lacing in its wake. Color was Coppery-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was really piney, sort of an evergreen-minty smell. Very pleasant. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was big on pine hops, but I was not getting much grapefruit, if any. What I was getting though, was a really earthy maltiness, like loads of English malts had been used. It created an unexpected mocha-like flavor, especially on the finish. Finish was dry, but not biting or gasping. It was really quite refreshing. Now, if they would put this one into CANs ...

Amber in color with a quarter inch of off creamy off white on top. I smell amber malt and grassy, earthy hops. I taste amber malt and earthy, bitter hops. The mouth is creamy, dry, and smooth.
