Notes: Forever Unloved Sandy was brewed as a fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts. So far, we’ve donated $75,000 to a variety of local organizations throughout the state to help with the recovery. Think of Sandy as wheat pale ale. It’s hopped with experimental hop ADHA 483, donated by the American Dwarf Hop Association, which has never been used in a beer before this one. Expect a beautiful nose of mangoes, peaches and guavas that will accentuate the beer’s soft mouthfeel and contribute to a truly one-of-a-kind ale.

A: a very pretty beer. Hazy yellow in color. Forms a large, fluffy, stable, off-white colored head. Moderate lacing.

S: aroma is tart and lemony, much like a lemon merengue pie. Some wheat, some tropical fruit, and a touch of marshmallow.

T: taste turns fairly tart, almost sour, but there is also a mildly componet. Its more like the tart-sourness of an Unripe piece of fruit rather than the acetic tartness of a wild ale. Wheat, lemon, mango, with a bit of dry wood on the back end.

M: lighter bodied. Moderate carbonation. Mild bitterness. Moderate dryness.

O: eh, a decent beer. I like the tropical notes, but they really don't seem to mesh well with the wheat. Drinkable and tasty, but lacks cohesiveness.

I just love this beer. Goes down easy, i.e. "Sessionable" nice interesting hop flavor, without being an over the top bitter hop monster. It breaks my heart to know that it's retired. Maybe Flying Fish will make a similar beer under a different name? Perfect balance and mouth-feel make it great from the first cold sip all the way down to the final finish.
