500mL poured into an oversized Belgian tulip.
A- Burly, frothy, sudsy, thick khaki head with a tinge of espresso color. Light lace streaks and a thick film that settles over the body. 5
S- Chocolate shows well but there's also some soy saucy notes. Vanilla, deep fruited notes and occasional hints that would convince me this was barrel-aged though I don't think it is. 4.25
T- Flavor has some real depth to it. Smokier than the nose ever let on to and there's a nutty, chocolatey, coffee-like component. Very expressive. Each sip offers a new nuance. What's really nice is the lingering chocolate and vanilla before a sharp, smokey, ashtray sort of flavor. I enjoy this, but I know damn well some people will be offended by this. Smoke something. 4.25
M- Mouthfeel is pretty gooey but with a yeasty carbonation that requires some getting used too. Heat is there but doesn't bother and this is probably a year-old bottle at least. Smokiness enters at the finish in a dry, ashtray fashion that I'm okay with. 4
Finback's been a mixed bag for me over the last couple of years but this is a gem. I really enjoy this.

thanks anthony! what a treat thus one is. great chocolate notes glazed over HUGE roastiness but without being overbearing....kind of gritty. really tasty...the wife stole a sip and quickly grabbed herself a glass to get a full pour. still fairly light bodied but easy drinking w great char roast stout flavoring.

I've heard of Small Ax by Bob Marley. I've heard of Lazy Gun by Jet. This is my first Lazy Ax.
Black with brown edges. Pours a big caramel colored head that recedes in to a thing ring. Rouses well. Smells like dark chocolate, vanilla bean, currant, tree bark and a little lactose. Tastes like dark, bitter backers chocolate. Big body. Dry, hoppy, barrel-char finish. Deep, dark and immersive, I really liked this for a xmas eve sipper.
