This was another offering from Finback that I traded for last summer that I finally got around to this week, as I've been away for quite a bit lately. While I was on the road, I had a few cherry limeades at Sonic and in an odd way, this beer reminded me of one of those. Sweet, full of flavor, and moderately carbonated, this came across as a bit artificial and different than anything I had, as it resembled soda more than beer once I finally finished it off...

this is a weird one, a cherry lime ipa, it didnt quite get me there. for one, i just dont think the execution is all that good, especially in the context of some finback stuff that has really blown my mind recently. im also not sure that it would really work so well even if it were more refined and better pulled off, i just dont know about this flavor combination with hops. the beer is a murky deep pink color, mostly flat from the awesome labeled can, and emitting an intriguing aroma of sweet red jolly rancher candy and bitter citrusy hops. i dont smell lime at all, and there isnt much grain present in the nose either, juice as much as beer. the flavor is weird, its oddly under flavored until the very end, when the cherry and the lime and all the hops hit all at the same moment, which doesnt really give me a chance to appreciate it all, the cherry is sweet and tart alike, sort of preserved tasting, and the lime is faded a little bit, well behind the cherry and also lost a little to the hops. meanwhile, its sweet but at the same time bitter, it doesnt taste like ipa, and the cherry and lime are obscured enough for it not to really taste like that either. a bit messy with the flavors, and a bit messy technically too. this is basically still on the carbonation, runny or dribbly in the body, and something i kept trying to like but couldnt ever get there. i generally really like weird, but not so much this time. in my experience, this is a rare miss from finback.

Pours a very unique muddy pink grapefruit juice color with a thin, murky odd light brown head that dissipated extremely quickly and left NO lacing. Smell is rather muted with citrus, cherry and lime notes. Tastes more like a fruited ale than an IPA. Tastes of orange, lime, lime zest, cherries, pineapple, very sweet and a mild hop presence on the finish. Minimal bitterness present, dry mouth feel, light bodied and light carbonation.

16oz. can into a Surly teku.
Nose is citrus and lime with a touch of red fruit sweetness. Actually pretty mellow. Beer opens fruity. Hints of citrus, lime zest, peach and pineapple. Real sweet and juicy. I know there's fruit in this one but it almost borders on being a fruit beer. No hop presence to speak of. Can sugar and more tropical fruit notes at the finish. Body is light with ample carbonation. Prickly in the mouth and goes down aggressive.
Not one of my favorite offerings from these guys. I don't need a NE style IPA to have a fruit addition.

Cherry lime IPA brewed with RAR. Nose is rather muted. The look is so cool - rose gold beer! Nice sweet cherry whiffs along with citrusy zest. Balanced in the pallette. Not a hop bomb or traditional modern IPA in the northeast in 2017. Almost a fruited ale that's slightly more aggressively hopped at the end. Fun for a gimmick, but for the $19 four pack pint can price, one and done. Glad it's out there though!
