Pours a cloudy orange / straw color, minimal head. Nice mango aroma mixed in with citrusy hops. Delicious mango flavor, big vanilla creamy flavor, hops are scratchy on the back of my throat. Smooth and sweet, this is one of my favorite beers, and I really don’t care for lactose ipa’s. Drove into Queens from NJ on a Friday at 4pm for this beer, 5 hours in the car round trip, worth it...

6/29/20 update - just finished my last of 16 that I bought on 5/15. Flavor def fades, need to drink in 6 weeks. Still love it, can’t wait to buy a case next summer. Still my favorite ipa.

Look: Pours a dull yellow orange color with a two finger, rocky and coarse head of white foam. Leaves no lacing and virtually no head retention.

Aroma: Orange creamsicle and bitter, waxy pine sap and tangerine rind.

Taste: Almost like a mimosa or a mango lassi. Upfront tart and slightly waxy/bitter notes of mango and grapefruit. Goes sweet mid palate with creamy notes of coconut. Borderline cloying degree of sweetness here, I really want to stress that, but there are some really unique flavors of sake from the sushi rice on the finish. Unfortunately, those flavors are somewhat muddied by some unpleasant hot and boozy fusel notes of alcohol on the back end of the tasting experience.

Feel: Texture is light with low carbonation. Somewhat flat. A little watery... it's just odd for something that's almost 8%abv. Sugar profile gives the body some weight but it's just not enough. It's also very boozy, again just an odd texture to this. This is where the beer loses a lot of points in my opinion and my main point of contention for why this beer scores below a 3.5/5 in my book.

Overall: Mixed feelings here. Slightly medicinal flavor to this . . . reminds me of the doctors office for whatever reason. Regardless, half of me thinks it's way too sweet and the other half wants to give Finnback credit for experimenting.

I liked what they did with the sushi rice here; but at the end of the day - it's just not for me. Very glad I tried it however since the flavor of sake from the sushi rice is something I've never experienced in a beer before - and I would highly recommend this, however in my opinion it's just too flat, boozy and tangy for my palate.

Legitimately no head whatsoever, looks like yellow chalk water... truly uninviting. Then you bring it to your face... the mango, coconut, papaya, and slightly boozy nose is kinda good. A ton of coconut and mango in the taste, with some resiny hops at the end and a mouthfeel and aftertaste that reminds me of good sakes that I've had. This is a hard one to rate, but I think it hits what they went for, and it was fun to drink.

Not what I was expecting for taste at all. Extremely disappointing and had high hopes based on the ratings. A no go for me.

Been ages since I reviewed anything from Finback on here, and this was one of the few brews from them that I traded for as opposed to taking the trek to go get it directly from the brewery. Not often that I have a beer that's fitting for it's moniker but that was the case with this one as it was fat in flavor and full of mango - if you're looking for either of those, then you've certainly found a winner with this one!

This had a typical, Finback appearance to it as the beer was a dank melon with some light seeping in around the edges. Not a lot of head topped it off and the lacing wasn't much of anywhere to be seen either throughout my session. Lots of mango, sweet cream, and coconut juice in the nose as the taste was full of all of those. Not quite a "dessert beer" but my, this was so sweet and smooth on the palate that I had to pace myself throughout my time with this. A bit of tangerine, grass, deep and dank hops, and nectar came through as this warmed up with the beer getting more and more complex near the bottom. Just enough carbonation kept this light while the sugar an d lactose were a bit short of overwhelming the palate...

The amount of booze was right here as this reminded me of my favorite offerings from Greenpoint and Tired Hands. This might have seen one-dimensional from the get-go but it was nicely done and easily enjoyable. Such a shame that Finback isn't closer to the subway in New York!

Smells great. Taste isn't bad at first, but then has a really strong coconut after taste. It's a little off putting.
