With the high roast of stout abounding, balance is in order. Traditional British found such offset of ashy roast with the comfort of oats. It's the grain to offer smoothness, silk, and cream influence to absorb much of the charred brunt.

And Warped Wing brewers find much the same as the otherwise abrassive burnt flavor would have been an obvious extention from the nearly opaque numbness of color. While strong coffee, cocoa powder and grilled nut aromas evoke an intimidating masculinity, its initial taste is of burnt sugar, roasted cola and dark roast coffee.

With its ashy and charred texture and taste trampling across the middle palate, a creamy smoky chocolate taste transpires. Laced with caramel, cream, and carbonized sweetness, the campfire and roasted qualities of taste extend deeply into finish. Warming slowly, the earthy and fruity taste of licorice, root sweetness and cherrywood add complexity and roundness in the most charming of English tastes.

Though roasty-dry and semi-acrid, there's a creamy, vanilla-like and silky undertow of taste and texture that soothes the rougher edges of the otherwise smoldering ember abrasion. Semi-dry in finish, the stout closes with light powdery ash and deep espresso roasted taste and accompanying bitterness.

Not bad at all . . . A decent oatmeal stout. Smooth and creamy with a nice roasty nutty touch. Sweet caramel addition with a touch carbonation that really improves the overall feel. Good beer

I got a can of this off the single shelf from a Kroger just down the road from south metro ice. It poured an opaque dark with off white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had faint roast, peat and chocolate. The taste had roast and coffee with a subtle sweetness at the front which turned slightly bitter at the end. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

This beer is much better than most oatmeal stouts on the market, likely due to a higher original gravity; not overly complex or decadent by any means, but smooth and quite enjoyable with a robust flavor superior to its compatriots.

16 ounce can. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like chocolate, coffee, oats, and some roasted malt. I think the taste is pretty much like the aroma, but there's also some molasses and a bit of smokiness noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's creamy with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good oatmeal stout, I liked it more and more the longer I drank it. This was the first Warped Wing brew I've tried, and I'll make a point to try some more from now on! $9.99 a 4-pack.

A: Pours a deep brown, in the glass it is black with a large medium tan head.

S: Rich creamy chocolate, with notes of vanilla and coffee. Some molasses and caramel.

T: Roasted malt, creamy with dark chocolate and coffee in the finish with a slight earthy lingering bitterness.

M: Medium in body, but the carbonation makes it feel a little lighter.

O: Overall tasty, it smells like it would taste more like a Imperial.. the flavor is somewhere between Oatmeal stout and Imperial. Not a bad brew, certainly a little more bold than your typical stout.
