Charcoal black with a bubbly tan head that quickly dies to a thin milky khaki collar.
Smell is intensely chocolatey up front, but getting in closer it becomes significantly more mature and spirited as notes of charred oak and dark fruits collide with vanilla whiskey veins and caramel brownies.
Taste brings a touch of tingly whiskey heat and black pepper, but it's balanced by the smooth, slightly peanut buttery chocolate roast. Complex and mature, yet easy to approach and enjoy thoroughly, notes of tobacco and date arise as it warms.
The body is moderately light but thickened mildly by a soft fizz before finishing slightly numbingly warm and semi-dry.
This is much better than the port barrel variant, thankfully, but it's crazy how much better regular Argonaut is overall, to my palate. This really comes out like a different beer altogether, though. So if you like well-developed barrel character in your stouts or Baltic porters, this will satisfy strongly.
