In 1850, impassioned artisans created stunning hand-carved chairs at the Stomps-Burkhardt Company in Dayton. Many of these prized pieces featured ornate faces based on Greek and Roman mythology. These chairs are now highly sought after by collectors. Today, craft beer aficionados have something to add to their own collections. Baltic Argonaut. A deep ebony Baltic Porter. With scents of roasted coffee and caramel. Taste luscious dark malt, chocolate, Port wine, vanilla, and hints of coffee. Now ease back. Close your eyes. Embrace the past. Then savor the moment.

Pours a deep mahogany with reddish highlights.
Aroma is very roasty and nutty with a little bit of coffee.
Slightly sweet chocolate flavor up front tastes more like soy sauce in the finish. Very nutty throughout.
Medium bodied with little carbonation.
Overall I enjoyed the drinking experience but I don’t think the port barrel added much.

L - pours dark, head mostly disappeared with a trace around the edges
S - malt, port, a slight metallic smell
T - malty with a port flavor, some char but not as much as the whiskey aged variant
F - medium mouthfeel, minimal carbonation
O - good beer, a bit sweeter than the whiskey variant

From the growler via Jungle Jim's Eastgate in a snifter. This mighty fine brew
pours a rich oily black with some thin dark ruby highlights and a decent
head of light tan foam that subsides to a thick ring with subtle lacing.
Nose of thick and rich port barrel notes with some cherry and vanilla
elements mingling with strong booze, brown sugars, coffee, and
chocolate. Flavors...WOW. Port and musty barrel roll across the
tastes with vanilla and touches of cherry that are awash in coffee
and bakers chocolate that are drenched in warming booze and
dark fruit notes traversing amongst grape must. Excellent mouth feel;
medium full---almost full body, smooth, rich, silky, lush, medium light
carbonation, and a rich moderately sweet and roasted finish that
is lightly dry.
overall, this is one of the best of the Warped Wing brews I have had
to date, and a MUST to repeat on the growler station!!!!!!!
Cheers!

This had an unusually watery, purple-black look to it with a bubbly tan uneven film.
Smell is hickory chips with a fortified red wine heat.
Taste is oddly woody, even to the point of becoming bacony, with raisin, cigar tobacco, hickory, charred oak and Tootsie Roll, while the roastiness comes out more towards the finish.
Paper dry, this has a thin body and a light bubbly carbonation.
I was very disappointed with this. I have loved my past experiences with regular Baltic Argonaut, but this was my first experience with a barrel-aged version. I've since had the Tennessee whiskey version, and it is markedly better.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2017 vintage stated on label. Served in a Warped Wing snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around a while. There's also a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like dark fruit, port, chocolate, roasted malt and caramel. It tastes pretty good too, it's pretty much just like the aroma with dark fruit, port, chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla and roasted malt flavors. It's a sweeter/fruitier tasting brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's creamy and a bit coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I really liked this, the port barrel aging worked great for this brew. Definitely worth picking up if you come across a bottle! $9.99 a bottle.
